I should elaborate. I've had the Arkansas tri-hone for a good long while, and I really do like it. It's a good way to get started with freehanding since they don't cut very fast and they aren't expensive, like a set of water stones can be. Freehanding is more fun than other sharpening methods and it...

Apprehension about using a new knife as intended
Get this. When I get a new knife, slide down the cover, unwrap your new knife from its protective wrapping, and what do I do with it? I open it a few times, check its sharpness, then put it straight into your collection, only taking it out for extremely light duty cutting tasks. Not too long ago I l...

Do you keep your stainless blades oiled?
I don't oil anything on my stainless blades except the pivots, but after I put an 8Cr13MoV Byrd in the dishwasher I noticed that there are some spots on the belly of the knife where corrosion popped up. Nothing major. Is this because of a couple hours of moisture in a dishwasher or is it a result of...

What do you plan to do with it? Leathermans have decent blades and great pliers. And I must confess, I love SAK. They're well-made and designed brilliantly. They won't open a can as well as a can opener, the scissors don't cut as well as a cheap pair of Fiskars, they won't loosen screws like a cordl...

New knife, Byrd Robin2
I've been on a knife buying binge lately and the price on this one was so attractive, I just had to get one.
I'm glad I did. Very handy size and boy, that 8cr13MoV steel is no joke. I love the edge it takes, and it takes it so well.

Been playing around with a $17 Buck Bantam. But this time I did a little tip I found on bladeforums and put some green polishing compound on the 6000 grit belt. So now I do know that the system is capable of producing edges that cut whittle freestanding hairs. I've been getting edges with bench ston...

I picked one up at Cabela's today and I've been playing around with it for a couple hours. First knife was a beater Kershaw Oso Sweet. Love the knife, but since it was one of my cheaper knives and it was dull, it had to play guinea pig. I decided to just go with the lowest angle setting possible (a ...

That certainly does look like heat discoloration which could affect the heat treat on the tip. My suggestion is to use it and if you can tell a noticeable difference in edge retention at the tip send it back to Spyderco and I have faith they will make it right. Ah. Is there some sort of chemical I ...
