I wouldn't worry much about Spyderco following any particular trend. They create trends. Like Sal said, lots of customers with lots of desires, so they put out lots of options. Not every knife is going to fit the configuration you like, but the good news is that there probably is another one coming ...

however I do not see it as a positive that Spyderco is moving away from functional based choices, there are enough knives out there which fill those markets. You don't feel like this is a bit of an over-reaction based on this being a limited edition run? Why get upset at this vs one of their Damasc...

He is changing the tool so the performance is increased, the analogy isn't at all applicable. It certainly fits with the tag line that Sal uses in that he would make the knife which is the tool you carry for function rather than the piece you carry because it is pretty. But if you buy knives for je...

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but it bears repeating. A sharpie marker is your best friend. Draw it down the bevel of your blade to the edge and start to sharpen and check periodically. Also, I recommend getting a loupe. I use this one, it's cheap and it has a built in LED light which is ...

Syncharmony - that's quite a looker you have there. Have you found the redwood burl to be soft? In its natural state, redwood is extremely easy to dent with your fingernail. Stabilizing helps toughen it up, but it is still not the most durable wood out there - but certainly one of the most beautifu...

The sharpmaker is one of the best products that Spyderco sells. It's fairly cheap, it's very light and portable and it is super easy to use to put an edge on something. It's not the best for re-profiling a knife, but it works decently with the diamond rods. Don't regret it for a single second. If I ...

Played the crap out of it until the Auction House got to be like eBay and it got to the point you could only be competitive if you spent real money to buy gear. The good news is Blizzard sees the problem and in March they're shutting down the Auction House so it should get back to the good old days...

What use of a knife does spine-whacking replicate? The only thing I can think of is batoning with the knife, which is already a bad idea with a folding knife in the first place. Spine whacking a frame lock also eliminates part of what gives a frame lock strength which is your hand applying pressure...

That was not my intention at all, and have stated that already. But it seems that nothing short of crucifixion will do for some of you! Ha, man, crucifixion is a little extreme don't you think? I haven't seen anyone attack YOU in anyway. Just good natured debate of the topic of conversation you bro...

Sounds like you want a heavy-duty knife more so than a tactical one. From a tactical stand-point, you have someone like Michael Janich who works in special projects and helps develop knives specifically for self-defense purposes, which is what a 'tactical' knife should be. Spyderco does in fact have...
