Also, is this the only XHP model where the steel is labelled "CTS XHP" without the dash? It looks weird to me haha

There is another post with a Native pictured and it does not have the dash. The printing of Spyderco and CTS XHP look to be in a different font in these newer blades. They must ...

Topic: VG-10: Is the "salient" atom cobalt, or is it vanadium?

Cobalt and vanadium serve different purposes in steel and it even depends on the type of steel in question. Vanadium is a carbide former with a very high affinity for carbon. In small amounts and in low alloyed steels it functions to limit grain size during heat treatment. That is because vanadium ...

I know the chemistry is practically identical, but I've read reports of people having different experiences in sharpening and use of CTS-204P and M390. Both excellent steels for sure.

While I won't refute anyone's experiences, these two grades are meant to be the same thing. You can throw in ...

I need an advice from steels specialists.Which steel is less prone to chipping but with good, if not excelent, edge retention.Rolling instead of chipping is not an option.

Actually, I'm not sure this question is answerable with a specific steel. There are too many factors to consider, such as ...

What sort of non-metallic materials would get mixed into the powder? Would they really survive all the heat involved in various processing steps? - I guess the answer is yes, but I'm surprised! :)

I assume that powder-process metals are cleaner than ingot forms? - or is that not right ...

Hello guys, in the picture the blade of my M4 Bradley folder. I have the knife almost 4 years and I really like it. Most recently I forced a real dark patina with novacan and a small doublespot stayed shiny. It seems to in the steel. What is it? It is the small light spot towards the bladetip in ...

(BTW about your avatar, is it "Speedstar" logo the other name of M2HSS ?)

The avatar is the Steelmark created by AISI back in the 60s. Depending on who you ask the three astroids represent different things. I like the idea of the three components used to make steel. Yellow - coal, orange - iron ...

Yea, I guess it was. I hadn't really thought about the post count on my account. I've been more of a "lurker" on forms than a poster. For some reason I just felt like posting. I'm a metallurgist by schooling and occupation. I work with tool steels on a daily basis. I've seen a fair amount of ingot ...

Compared to ingot made Cru-wear the CPM version will have better toughness/chip resistance, but the same or very similar wear. The differences you see on the data sheets for chemistry are more than likely not really significant. Someone different made each and just used different nominals. The ...
