Re: AEB-L Urban Performance Reviews
I love AEB-L and would love to see it catch on, but it can be wasted if one were to leave the edge at an angle over...12 or so degrees, maybe? It can take extremely fine edges. It also requires being hardened to near maximum hardness or it ends up with terrible edge retention. I didn't read through...

Re: 20CV/CF Yojimbo at BHQ
I have two in S90V and really want a 20CV model, but that would be kind of pointless to purchase. The Yojimbo 2 is an underappreciated model.

Re: First real spyderco for sons 18th B-day ???
The Manix 2 is a great choice, but if you want something special...go for an exclusive or sprint PM2. Collectible, unique, and a fantastic knife even for the standard model. I also think the Shaman would be a great choice - you might have to find a coupon for it to get it into your price range. If y...

I’d like this steel to be used on a Kaparra or Chaparral.

Re: S30V Only Cool if it's a Benchmade?
People who actually use their knives know S30V is a great steel. People who collect knives want to see diffferent designations engraved on them. There are uses where other steels matter. But for the large mass of general EDC focused knives S30V is great. That’s sort of ridiculous to say. I use my k...

Re: CPM 4V | Edge Performance
Just wanted to chime in to state that knifemakers typically prefer steels that take a heat treat with as little fuss as possible. Most folks don’t do their own tests to study performance of steels when they’re using many different types. That’s more common with less expensive/less wear resistant ste...

Re: Spyderco Knives in Aus Japanese Steel?
Are there or have there ever been any Spyderco knives with blades made of AUS 8 series steel or other AUS series steel? And would you want them in this exquisitely strong, sharp, and satiny steel? How about a Spyderco knife with a 3 mm thick blade made of this stainless steel and FRN handles? A ste...

Re: St. Nick's Knives Exclusive Para 3
are the secondary market prices on this knife in line with what you guys think? I need one of these or the red m390, but what these st nick ones are going for right now is crazy compared to the price they sold at. I didnt know it was coming out, so I missed it. A guy I know offered to sell me his f...

Re: Para 3 exclusive at River's Edge Cutlery
M390 is harder to get inside the US, I believe, particularly in large quantity.silvershade255 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 20, 2018 11:41 pmI'm kind of hoping they switch to m390 or 20cv (supposedly there's an issue getting 204p in small sprint/exclusive quantities) and make another batch just to end this aftermarket craziness.

Re: Jerry Brouwer review
I will agree with the hourglass pocket clip issues. It’s one thing to have the knife stick out a bit to grab it more easily, but there’s a point of ridiculousness... particularly on smaller knives. Heck, Spyderco could just use an hourglass clip with a hole by the screws over the lanyard hole. Combi...

Re: I don't suppose they will ever make....
I would like to see a version that is just...better designed. The knife doesn't feel great in the hand because of the way the scales are set up. Disengaging the lock sucks. The blade shape is nice, but they can do a lot better in other areas.

Re: Why we love the steels we love?
I find it's more important to understand the basics of knife steels and then you can sort of understand the pros and cons of each steel. Grain size, volume, corrosion resistance, type of carbides, etc. I choose which steel I use based on what I'm doing with it. With proper heat treats, all steels ar...

Re: Manix2 4v marbled carbon fiber exclusive
Maybe it's made for prying doors? Working man knife. ~$80 premium (vs S110V price...assuming 4V upgrade is similar to S110V upgrade based on Para 3 sale) for fancy marbled carbon fiber scales that are smooth nonetheless... working mans knife.... does not compute... It's exclusive, never before used...

Re: Cruwear vs. S35VN
Carbon tool steel folders are weird! :) The main advantage is for prying. Yeah I pry but I mainly use my folders as a do it all cutting tool so I find that a high quality stainless is best. S35VN is an excellent cutlery steel. As far as Spyderco sprint runs, you dont think, you just buy, thought go...

Re: Cruwear vs. S35VN
CPM Cruwear has held an edge better than S35Vn for me. In a CATRA test, it's possible S35Vn is better, but real world use is a bit different sometimes. Also, I haven't used S35Vn from Spyderco because I have so much of it from other companies (obviously heat treat quality varies). CPM Cruwear is on...

Re: Updated shaman sprint steel poll
Micarta and Cruwear aren't necessarily overly expensive materials, hopefully the increase in price won't be too substantial. I won't say what price I'd pay for this knife, but I'd pay a bit over what the current model goes for. I do feel like this model is a bit higher priced than it should be (base...
