KOT: Difference between a cheap knockoff and a quality blade

I guess Karma is a b*tch. Seriously though, this is a dramatic example of what NOT to do when you don't know anything about a blade.

Thanks for the info guys! I do think it looks 'purty' but I was wondering about the performance.

I see some Boker Utility fixed blades with this feature, going for clearance at some websites. I might pick one up for novelty.

Questions on Crystalized Titanium

On one of my random web searches for knives, I bumped into the brand, Boker. They apparently have a few knives with blades made with this substance, Crystalized Titanium. I saw a few picks and it looks like a cool mosaic of blue-ish crystals. Does anybody know anything about Crystalized Titanium? Ho...

Ladybug and Photon Light combo over at NewGraham

This is cool! It's a "forest green" Ladybug with a matching keychain, Photon light with a Spyderco bug logo on it!

My family usually does an Asian-fusion thing with American foods.

But as for the meats we eat over the holidays, we have chicken, beef, and my favorite, duck.

Mmm...nothing like a nice juicy duck roasted Peking style :-).

I've read the replies on bladeforums. All I can say is I like the knife. Blackwood has some fantastic knife designs and I think that his 3-hole thing is cool. Whether it's infringing on Spyderco's trademark of the "round, opening thumb-hole" is up to Benchmade or Neil Blackwood, Spyderco &...

Hey Nemo, I think Aragorn should have the ATR. Gandalf would have the Gunting, but he wouldn't need to clip it anywhere since he's a wizard. He probably has some sort of extra-dimesional pocket that he can put stuff in and pull out whenever he needs it. Hmm...I think That the Urak-hai, Orcs, and Gob...

ROT: Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King ~ no spoilers please

I just went to see the movie. It was, again, another LONG movie (nearly 3 hours).

I loved it just like the last two before it. It's been over 10 years since I read the books, but IMHO the movies were just as captivating, condensed down into 3 hour segments.

First and foremost, I'm American. I was born in this country and live by it's ideals. Second, I am of Chinese heritage. I am the 1st american-born generation of my family and proud of it! And just on a side note. My nick/handle "Silver Dragon" is derived from the fact that I am born on Aug...

I have a both, a jigged-bone-handled Kiwi and a Stainless Steel Kiwi. I like how easy it is to sharpen wharncliff type blades. The very tip of these blades also apply themselves to great utility when making fine cuts through thin materials. The only draw back that I've found with wharncliff styled b...

I don't have a Meerkat, yet. I do have the SS Cricket in both PE and SE. I've done a few cutting chores with each and one blade profile fits certain jobs better than the other. Probably why I carry both when they come out of my knife drawer. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=mi...

Native II in SV30 I love the length, spear point shape, and sharpness of the Native II's blade. Even though I have two grey aluminum handled Salsa's, they've been collecting a lot of dust in my drawer. The compression lock on those knives has a bad tendency to pinch the flesh of the palm of my hand ...

I carry my SS Kiwi everywhere. It's small enough that it doesn't raise too many eyebrows.

I think the problem is how most people view what the original intent of the item in question is. It's true that you could pretty much use anything to kill a person. Even your bare hands if you must, it's just that there are things which are more efficient at killing than others. But, for example, mo...

It's the innovative designs and quality of Spyderco that keep me hooked. It'll also out perform some of those other over-rated and over-complicated knives. I have a tend...

I really want a Spyderfly. But I live in California so any butterfly knife over 2" in blade length is illegal. Is there a possibility that maybe Spyderco will produce and release a Spyderfly with a 1 and 15/16" blade? Give it a 3" handle and it'll be all set for flipping. I can hope <...
