Re: MangaSlice - The Next Breakthrough in Knife Steel

Honestly can't wait for WaifuWear to drop. Such an exciting time in steels we get to live in. I don’t understand how you found out about my secret development? Maybe I should update my tin foil hat, it's old and probably not working properly. Okay, I'll tell you a little about her. 1.PNG This will ...

MangaSlice - The Next Breakthrough in Knife Steel

00.PNG MangaSlice - The Next Breakthrough in Knife Steel I had considered attempting to come up with my own unique steel compositions, but just wanting to do so doesn't mean that you have something unique to offer. However, spending all this time on writing about different knife steels eventually l...

You guys did a wonderful job at the factory on this Manix 2 Salt in MagnaCut. Average BESS sharpness was 122g which is lower than the 150g Baseline most Spyderco edges are at.
Is this a factory sharpening or yours?

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Can you level a King water stones with glass and wet/dry sandpaper? I use that when I am doing furniture building, but obviously to flatten small pieces of wood. If you are so comfortable, then why not? I just don't think this stone needs sandpaper, it's a soft stone and an abrasive that comes off ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Figure if you had a nice big surface to set an edge and to flatten whetstones it’s a win win. This is not a good idea. This will cause premature wear of the diamond insert. Either level stones or sharpen knives. It is better to use either very cheap diamond plates for this, or to level the surface ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

I have the KING KW65 1000/6000, it has a different grit on each side. It works well for my chisel set but it was my understanding that harder steels needed Diamond or CBN to "cut" the steel otherwise you could be there all day with them. As I understand it, you still don't have knives wit...

2 King Whet stones I use for chisels What is the grain size of these stones? What model? Why don't you use these stones? I had a king 800 grit. This is a great stone. I sharpened both k390 and zdp-189 on it. IMG_20190728_200422.jpg IMG_20190728_123815.jpg Maybe you don't like to deliver dirt and th...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Well it seems I'm wrong when it comes to silicon carbide being able to cut the vanadium carbides in blade steel. Science of Sharp has some good pictures of carbides in K390 and Maxamet being cut by silicon carbide. Might pick up a Norton Crystolon and give it a try. It has me thinking about a few t...

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

First I would like to quote words from this article (I recommend reading it all) https://scienceofsharp.com/2016/12/21/abrasion-rat-vs-grit/ In the study and literature on the topic of grinding and wear (tribology) the terms “sliding, ploughing and cutting” are commonly used. There is a critical pre...

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

t's just that it might not do it optimally because the silicon carbide will not cut the vanadium carbides. Rather, it'll cut the metal surrounding the carbides, and at some point the carbides will either be extracted or break from the stress. Whether it's optimal or not, I don't know. These are spe...

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

As a clear example of the effectiveness of silicon carbide stones. This is a blade made of steel s60v with a hardness of 61HRc I argue (within a reasonable time) that such work cannot be done on a diamond, you simply cannot create such pressure on the blade that the diamond would begin to cut steel ...

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

The hardest silicon carbide is 2400-2600 vickers but sharpening stones could use softer grades. Where as vanadium carbide is 2800-3000 vickers. CBN comes close to 5000 vickers. So with those values known why choose SiC over diamond and cBN? A few of my theses. 1. The hardness of silicon carbide is ...

HI, Deadboxhero. I would like to discuss the following statements of yours As for when is the exact amount that you absolutely, positively, always need diamond the most commonly held belief was if the steel has 4% wt Vanadium alloy in its chemistry then you need diamond. I don't understand why silic...

Re: Just cuts

Those are some pretty impressive videos. Is your rolled up magazine video a fresh edge, or was that after the wood cutting? The knife was after sharpening. But after woodworking, usually, the knife becomes a little dull and it would be enough for cutting a magazine. Spyderco Urban k390 ~16dps, bte ...

I think that the resistance to corrosion of CTS® B70P = CPM S30V.
