Re: Question concerning Sharpmaker Triangle

The coarse stones of the sharpmaker aren't really that coarse. So if your knife is actually 25 degrees it will take a very long time to get them to 20 degrees with the standard stones. This is where Cliff is suggesting the diamond stone. From personal experience I 100% agree with Cliff about getting...

hijack alert

Awesome bike! I don't have a streetbike yet but I'm 26 and have lived on an acreage basically my whole life...been dirtbiking for over 2 decades (Even in the snow which can get interesting), and I may buy a CBR600RR off a friend of mine eventually. I sure wish there was a road course close to here....

reprofiling ZDP

Unless the edge is close to 30 already reprofiling ZDP with the brown stones will take a very long time . If you are happy now stay on 40 until you find someone with some diamond stones. I had to re-profile my 2013 forum native S110V and trying to do it, or ZDP, with the standard Sharpmaker stones ...

Let me start this reply with this: I'm no expert and don't even own a manbug. My understanding is that ZDP will be able to hold a more acute angle without rolling an edge. So if you are not doing heavy duty cutting, and let's face it this is a manbug, I would try 30.

D2 / G10 in dark blue

How about G10 (frn is too small for my hands) and D2. That and camouflage it so that is looks like one of my current knifes ... makes it more wife friendly. haha.

I'm not that impressed with some of the spyderco factory edges. My forum native in s110v was terrible, Manix s30v was OK but nothing stellar. I always sharpen!

If i'm importing something from the US into Canada I would rather use USPS due to price and the fact that they haven't failed me yet. Up here we call UPS useless postal service (I understand they rock inside the US).

SKD11 Japanese chef knife

I have a Japanese chef knife done with SLD steel, which is also known as SKD11, hardened to HRC60. The knife gets sharper than any other knife I own and holds an edge for a very long time. The downside is that it is a bit chippy. There are numerous very small chips about 1/3 out from the handle. I A...

For the price I like the Gatco for general purpose sharpening. The area it comes up short is for low angles. I can't get the angle low enough to sharpen my Japanese kitchen knifes. When I try the stone hits the aluminum knife clamp.

I'm not a collector and the native s110v is my edc. I did re-profile mine to a lower angle (it came dull as a stick). I used a Gatco sharpener to re-profile and to take that much metal off the knife was taking forever. In the end I used some psa backed diamond lapping film from leevalley and that wo...
