Re: What is Mini Bugout Equivalent for Spyderco?

Wow. I hadn't kept up with that. I have a full set of Sages, including both variants of the 3. I guess I'll hang onto them. :) I'm with Wartstein though. I think the closest thing to achieving the Mini Bugout design philosophy with Spyderco ergonomics is the Chaparral FRN. I'd gladly trade my CruCar...

I’m currently hunting for my Hap40 Dragonfly that my Mrs borrowed and mislaid. Not happy.
Just get yourself a K390 to replace it. :)

Re: Anyone else dislike the wire pocket clip?

I don't have a very strong preference for the clips. I'm good with wire and spoon. But, what are you doing with a Lil Native that develops hot spots? I can't imagine using that knife for something that I'd be doing long enough to get hot spots. Maybe carry a small fixed blade for those tasks? Nothin...

Re: What is Mini Bugout Equivalent for Spyderco?

If you want the Sage that's closest to the Bugout, I'd look at the Sage 3, for the bolt action lock. It's the closest lock to the Axis lock in Spyderco's line up (even closer than the CBBL).

Re: Lies, D*** lies & Statistics

My working theory is that everyone who publishes statistics has an agenda and is therefore unlikely they will willingly publish anything that does not support that agenda. I'd say you're going to be right about 99% of the time. I've definitely seen a few remarkable cases where statistics were publi...

Re: Lies, D*** lies & Statistics

Whether or not those numbers of deaths really are “remarkably low” is another debate entirely, as is the cost of those lives. It's still a trade off. There are human costs to a lockdown too. Malnutrition, death, domestic abuse...some of them will have long term consequences for many years after thi...

Re: What is Mini Bugout Equivalent for Spyderco?

The Dfly cuts so far above it's size class it's crazy. It truly defines "little big knife." It's really impressive how much cutting ability is packed into that tiny package.

Re: Lies, D*** lies & Statistics

Next time you see a doctor or nurse practitioner or physician assistant, aka the worker bees or sled dogs, who provides a service to you, ask them how much that visit costs. I am extremely familiar with medical billings. Also, because I pay my medical expenses out of pocket, I'm very familiar with ...

Re: Lies, D*** lies & Statistics

From someone who is "inside the business," there is more left out of this discussion than included to keep the balance. I've done the grad school doctor thing too and was entertained by this statistical thread before doctor's titles derailed it. No offense, but almost everyone inside the business o...

Re: Lies, D*** lies & Statistics

Here in the state of Missouri a doctor with the D. O. training is essentially on the same level as a doctor with the M. D. certification. My last two surgeons were D. O. and they were great. That's true everywhere in the country. The MD and DO are the degrees that qualify you for internship and res...

If you want it to feel as smooth as possible during the "break in period" you can put some good light oil on the pivot. Personally, I just oil and use, and basically never adjust the pivot at all.

Re: Strongest EDC Steel?

It also takes a certain amount of investment in sharpening equipment to do the sharpening. And if you aren't a knife person and don't care to learn the skills, and don't want to spend the money on sharpening stuff, it makes a lot of sense to just use the factory sharpening service. Most people on th...

Re: Strongest EDC Steel?

- You WILL still have to sharpen your superhard, supersteel knife eventually, and that will be a lot harder to do than on a "softer" steel - especially if you´re still learning! Turnaround for factory sharpening in the USA is less than 2 weeks. Non-knife people really don't have to sharpen their Sp...

I never assume anything... I always check for the Medical Degree etc... Before going... :D That makes you a lot smarter than the average person, unfortunately. My wife once walked out of a "doctor's appointment" for my daughter when it became apparent that the "doctor" we were talking to knew _a lo...

My wife has been cutting my hair in the back yard. She doesn't trust me to cut her hair, though, so our 11 year old daughter is doing that.

Re: What is Mini Bugout Equivalent for Spyderco?

The only advantage of the mini bugout over the chaparral is the axis lock (if you like that style of lock, which I do). The Chaparral has much better ergonomics, though (plus, it's cheaper). The bugout ergonomics can best be described as "blade on a plastic stick," where the chaparral actually has n...

Re: Strongest EDC Steel?

I would have to weigh in with any model in S90V over S110V. There are people on the board who know a lot more about it than I do but S90V seems easier to sharpen and isn't as prone to chipping. I agree on both of those points, from personal experience. S110v holds an edge longer and has better corr...

Re: PM A11 vs k390 edge geometry and experience

I've never had chips in either my K390 or A11 mules. Ive used the K390 harder than the A11, but I haven't been shy with either of them.

I don't think that 30 degrees is going to be a problem for your A11, but heck, if it is, definitely post here so other people can learn--that's what mules are for.

Re: Strongest EDC Steel?

S110V and Maxamet as VooDoo said if you don't want to have to sharpen for a long time. If you were to get a knife in those steels, I'd just touch it up every so often so it never actually goes dull. If you're a novice sharpener, they could be a problem. If you're a novice sharpener, you can just se...
