Re: Elmax vs n690

But the lionspy was much thicker, no? Thicker but I reprofiled and still it just didn't have the same ease of maintenance as the Mule. I've had a lot of Elmax over the years as stated. Just seems to be a difficult heat treat or something to get it just right. Spyderco gets it. I did a kitchen knife...

Re: Elmax vs n690

I like N690. I have a few and it's a simple to maintain steel that gets extremely sharp. Won't hold it as long as the Elmax but I've found Elmax to be somewhat finicky at times. Sort of all over the place with different heat treatments from different makers. One of my favorites is the Elmax Mule I u...

Re: Got the Tatanka...what a beast!

It carries well. Drops low in the pocket so the Spyder bump is out of the way when digging for anything. I already posted this picture somewhere around here but since this is a Tatanka thread...here's my customized "Tank" and its S110V Native 5 partner. Need to get some new pictures as soo...

Looking at google, it has a funny lockbar pivot that doesn't have screws.
Correct. All screws except for a pinned lock bar.

Re: Does anyone have any pics of the Native 5 Lightweight Lockup?

I took a look at the 3 I still have. G-10, S110V carbon, and an S35VN LW and the lock doesn't appear to be much different. That said, I've never had anything but a solid lockup on any Native 5. Always better than most of my Endura/Delica lockups. Looks (to me) that the Native lock was designed to dr...

Re: Not A Clue In What I Have... Using It For Charity...

It as value to a Spyderco collector because it's an older plain edge Harpy. It's available to the US market as a serrated blade these days. But if you're putting it up for auction there's a limited audience for collector value and you'll get pennies on the dollar for it. Your best bet would be to pu...

Re: The 1960s: Televisions Very Best Shows EVER

I was a big fan of the 60's spy shows especially Mission Impossible, I Spy, The Prisoner, and The Wild Wild West.
Other than that Gilligan's Island, My Favorite Martian, Lost In Space, Star Trek,The Addams Family and The Munsters were staples.
And you're right, they don't make them like they used to.

Re: Why everyone should carry two (at least) knives for EDC

Never got in the habit of carrying two knives. Don't know why?? I guess I would forget I had two and use the EDC anyway. :D The "knife loan" theory is reason enough to carry two. Beater, hummmm SnG, American Lawman, Avispa? I have something that I carry in my pocket sometimes for the &quo...

Re: Why everyone should carry two (at least) knives for EDC

I carry two only when I'm carrying an extra large primary like the Tatanka. I'll slip in a secondary, friendly sized blade for the sensitive folks.

Re: What Are You Watching?

Today I watched the latest episodes of Helix, 12 Monkeys, The Americans and right now I'm watching Divergent. Meh, kind of slow with not a lot of plot development. I hear Insurgent is better.
Still have a couple of hours to go, got to get something else queued up.

Re: So what's your favorite steel?

I like a nice polished edge for the work I do and found that the most responsive to performing with that edge for me are VG-10, S35VN and CTS-XHP. A toothy edge has its place in my rotation occasionally, that's when I stuff some ZDP or S110V in my pocket then touch it up when I get home on 600 grit....

Shoulda asked her if she wanted to go for a dip. Image

But actually she's probably (depending on proximity) assessing the future issues of noise and other things she can complain to council about.
