Must See Knife Places in Japan?

I've moved to the Kansai area and plan to live here for a year. People mention how Japan is a knife mecca, but I haven't read a lot on what there is to see here. I've found a couple tiny knife shops (Kyoto and Kobe) that sell some imports (including Spyderco) and some interesting Higo Nokami. In Oct...

I love my CF Chaparral for a slick EDC, but I have used it as a steak knife and it's less than ideal. Holding the handle horizontally, you will notice the blade is on a downward angle. Along with the leaf shaped blade, this makes the tip very low and exposes little belly when slicing forward and dow...

Have you considered sending it in to Spyderco and asking them to do it? I have a PM2 that had a broken tip and was re-ground by the factory. Aside from being slightly shorter, it's basically perfect. How much did Spyderco charge? I love my Chaparral, but I want to take it to Asia so it needs about ...

Carried it for a few days now with thin, lightweight summer shorts. It stayed secure for the most part, until I would try to remove my wallet or keys from the same pocket. At that point it almost gets knocked out if I'm not careful. Also noticed it's not as thin on my side, since the clip material i...

Low rider pocket clip comparison: test subject Dragonfly Nishijin

I picked up a titanium low rider clip to try and have my Dragonfly Nishijin carry deeper. I thought about getting a more expensive custom STR clip, but this one I found happened to be $7. It will work on many different Spydercos and other knives that use a standard three screw clip. I don't know if ...

Finally came into stock at a local Canadian dealer so I picked it up. I can't seem to find a happy pivot medium. Right now I've got it so tight that the blade won't deploy or close under gravity when the lock is disengaged, but there is still left/right blade play. If I tighten to where there is no ...

This orange is so much better than the catalog photos suggest! The stock photo is an ugly faded yellowish orange. rodloos, what fixed blade knife is in the top middle (vertical)? Also, how long ago were the orange Ladybugs released? Are they FFG? http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h400/rodloos/Cano...

My new CF Chaparral (old stock with S30V) is the smoothest Spyderco I own and flicks open easily like butter. Came out of the box that way. My Nishijin Dragonfly on the other hand is slow and requires more pressure to open than any other knife I have. No amount of pivot or lockback screw adjustments...

Removing logo and lettering from Chaparral?

Just picked up a CF Chaparral and love it. I noticed the logo and lettering on the blade is different than my other Spydercos. It seems like paint or some other applied marking. These markings have a rough, sandpaper like finish. When I clean the blade with tissues or cotton wipes, they tear up and ...

Why is this a bad thing? Isn't this good, so the blade will stain less? What is the downside?

Has Spyderco released a knife with Super Blue "sandwiched between layers of stainless steel" like these Enduras and Delicas will? Was the SB Mule Team composed that way? I don't know much about SB but heard the SB Mule stains easily and inevitably, and am curious if the Delica will react t...

All I know is that I'm now a fan of translucent coloured knives, and will buy the next translucent coloured knife Spyderco releases.

The Manix is a large intimidating knife, but sheeple don't seem to mind since the handle has such a non-threatening look.

I had a LW manix2 for half a day, sent it back immediately. I hear u guys saying its solid, but to my hand it felt like a toy. Totally agree with the hard brittle comments. I think some believe it feels cheap because it is so lightweight, equating weight with sturdiness. It's rather quick to call i...

Translucent Blue FRCP handles...use in future knives?

I've had a Manix 2 Lightweight Blue for a while and quite like the translucent blue fibre reinforced co-polymer handles. They look great and have so far been durable and rigid enough.

Are there any future plans for using translucent FRCP in other knives? Has the translucent blue Manix 2 sold well?
