Re: What's Cookin'?

I have chefs in the family. I took the kitchen safety classes so I could help out at their catering jobs. I learned a lot. I understand the cautions through and through. Any reminder is worthwhile.

.... If you want to have perfect, tender fried chicken. Marinade it in plain buttermilk for an hour or two. Take it out, pat it dry, season it, batter it and fry it off. ... If you can wait 24 hours it gets marvelous. I had to resupply and first thing in the door was a cooler of beef brisket. I hav...

Re: Home Protection and or CC

I'm supporting VashHash's recommendations. I have no obligation to choose any pistol. There are many and more than enough salespersons for them all. I suggested an alternative. It's up to the OP to decide on all these things.

...Can you actually put your hands on the gun and possibly fire it before you buy it? Probably the most important part of the decision honestly. It's not an option for everyone which is unfortunate. ... Just don't feel rushed to buy a gun and make a hasty decision you might regret later. I agree wh...

Re: Has the Coronavirus affected your daily life?

In the midst of the pestilence one of the pshrinkologists wandered through the team areas the other day reminding us of the Four to One rule. She thought it useful enough to remind us that most of what we do is not medicine but human behavior. The idea is that it takes four good things to offset a b...

Re: Straight razor shaving

One trap to making sure multiblade cartridges persist, is that the TSA won't let you fly with a straight or DE blade in the cabin. Plus the airlines sort of encourage a carryon anyway so paying 50 USD just to fly with a favorite lifetime razor seems less frugal. From a green perspective you aren't t...

Re: Serration Disappointment

...It's actually been discussed on this and other forums a number of times for the past 20 years. In fact, I explained that reasoning very clearly a week or so ago to one of our forumites in an email. sal In all the times we've talked about stuff, I'd never considered the SE question. Then someone ...

Re: Serration Disappointment

I'll suggest giving the SE blade some more time with cutting. Your brain will instinctively adapt to the angle of the blade needed and it will work. Give it practice. I support the SE blade being more effective in cutting things. I have some Japanese razors that are double hollow ground with a short...

Re: Has the Coronavirus affected your daily life?

Hey Naperville, he doesn't say "don't wear a mask". He does speak of aerosolized transmission and it's not what everyone thought it was. He says that a mask has a different purpose, that of breaking the cycle of touching your face unconsciously. And for that a Homer Depot mask will do, sav...

Re: Has the Coronavirus affected your daily life?

That is one of the best, explained in plain English, summaries of what Covid19 is and how to change your life to live with it. Outstanding link! For it being a week old, no matter, vaccine or not, the principles to live without getting sick are all right there. Hand cleansing and a mask, not to prev...

Opinel: the best knife for the money on the planet.

....Do you have a knife conscience? If so, what has it prevented you from doing, or pushed you to do? I got pushed by the dream of having a blade that was as tough as it could be without losing hardness. I got a best friend and eventually Bainite from that learning curve. Some single point has to break the surface tension of the material being cut somewhere along the edge. Mulitple points make that begin sooner. The balance between polished edge and a toothy feel may well be completely subjective. I can understand an art chef wanting a polished edge so that the food ...

If photos can't prove the case that grit scratch marks are equal to microserrations, then we need someone with a much better camera rig to take photomicrographs.
