Re: Chaparral LW FRN Wire Clip Question

Most all of my Spydercos have the wire clip due to low profile, and deep carry but they are more prone to jumping out of your pocket when caught on jacket hems, seat belts, etc. There are two things I have done in the past that do tighten their grip in the pocket somewhat. The 1st (and best way IMO)...

I'll never understand the prestige Titanium enjoys. It isn't very expensive. Check prices yourself - https://store.tmstitanium.com That's the first retailer I found for Ti stock, I'm sure you could do better if you shopped around. Titanium was discovered waaaay back in the 1700's, it isn't the spac...

Re: Is your interest in sharpening on the same level as your interest in knives?

For my 2 cents, guided systems gives the end user "repeatabilty" assuring consistently apexed edges across a number of knives. Repeatability and consistency is big in the world of engineers.

Re: GB Air LW?

Thx for the tip but I'm not really a sheath/holster guy. My tightened pivot seems to keep me from being cut, and I don't mind slow(er) opening folders.

Re: GB Air LW?

I really like your idea of a new Air Bradley, with a clip & FRN scales, and relieved (skeletonized) SS liners since it might help somewhat with the oft-reported weak detent issue the original Air exhibited. I suspect even with SS liners, and FRN scales it might actually end up slightly heavier t...

Re: Techno vs Techno 2

There seems to be a lot of confusion floating around about this... The original Techno had a carburized lock face. It was basically ‘heat treated’ similar to the way a Sebenza is done. This is not the same as carbidizing. Many of the Taichung framelocks have been carburized, to good effect evidentl...

Sure hope this means the Urban is produced next in BD1N as a production piece since it's a Maniago stable-mate?

Re: Techno opinions

I love it too for most of the reasons already given, however I think the main reason is...it is one of the best (truest to the original) production interpretations of a custom design by ANY manufacturer I've ever seen! Other than the clip, and a few other superficial cues, it essentially is a ringer...

Re: Change to Techno scale finish?

Sorry to hear your impression is one of diminishing precision build quality and lock stick, especially since I always felt the Techno was one of the best examples of Taichung's craftsmanship. Sure hope it's not a trend... To be clear, I do NOT feel that the quality has diminished. Apart from the st...

Re: Change to Techno scale finish?

My Techno is several years old now and is as you described your earlier version(s) with scales a very pronounced stone wash only a shade or two darker than the blade. Your new Techno scales almost appear to be a manuf'd in a similar process as the Sage 2, or perhaps the Mantra (1&2)...kind of th...

Re: Mantra or Mantra2? Opinions wanted.

Thanks SG...good to hear. Seems like the majority of people are getting good ones, and I'm sure Spyderco will ultimately address the bugs in the design, just wish I knew w/some degree of certainty that we had crossed that threshold before I buy.

Re: Mantra or Mantra2? Opinions wanted.

I've been reluctant to purchase the Mantra, even though I think it's a great design w/impressive materials for the $$, due to the reports of dented bearing races and poor flipping action due to a weak detent...and frankly, Spyderco's silence (unless I missed a factory rep or Sal reply) in view of th...

Re: Did i buy a fake Ambitious? (Texas ebay seller)

Is there a better quality knife in the same size? Yep...the "Techno" is extremely similar in form. If you like the chunky appeal of the Ambitious, I'm guessing you'll love the Techno's far superior materials, and meticulous build quality. I own both, and the Ambitious segued me into Spyde...

Re: New Ti/Elmax Pingo...

I think the bug logo make it look cute and helps conform to the non-locking knife laws and what not. Price is a bit steep though. Can I buy one for $150 minus the bug? I think you're probably right about the logo adding to it's "lets not freak anyone out" vibe for a targeted market...alth...

Re: New Ti/Elmax Pingo...

Before your next hyperbole rant make sure that if you can dish it out that you can take it. You are entitled to your opinion and you are encouraged to share it (we all dislike some spydies) but you could try to be a little more tactful maybe. That's funny, I don't feel very encouraged, but maybe yo...

Arent you a bit hard on this one ? Spyderco put a **** of a lot of hard work and money in this knife to please us all. Maybe...but I stand by my opinion. I suppose Spyderco was trying to add a bit of whimsy to the folder considering it was designed for markets where one handed openers are prohibite...
