BTW, how do you spell the color grey? Is it grey or gray. I think it is grey. In the add it says "gray". I've seen it spelled both ways when referring to a color so I can't say I've always been right. This is completely un-important (or is it non-imprttant or anti-importand :) )? :D Both ...

Forget a small cut, I have sliced open my hands more times than I care to count. You'll definitely learn how to handle your knives to avoid cuts, but some of us are still a little clumsy ;)

Polishes easily like VG-10, holds its edge like S30V. What's not to like :)

Domino would be amazing. I'd like to see the scale side with just a titanium slab, instead of a different scale :D

Thanks Cliff, I guess I should have mentioned that you shouldn't use that rule of thumb as a guide for sharpening, more for if you want to grind a blade after heat treatment. As both you and Evil D have mentioned the thin edge does heat up much faster than the rest of the blade. I burned the edges o...

When I ground my Manbug spine to resemble a Jester I used Dremel's tungsten carbid bits along with some of the "cut lube" and there was hardly any heat generated at all. But if I had used the grinding stones even with the cut lube the steel would have gotten real hot I think. Some cutting...

Old version of this product had 1/8" ceramic rods that fit into the Dremel chuck. Low speed, perfect size and shape for serrations. Don't know if this new version has removable rods. Worth a look: http://www.gatcosharpeners.com/product/ceramic/super_micro.mgi?mgiToken=PU5EHXDQ1QTIQPX4 I'm sure...

I like the Chosera 1k stone, I use it between my 400 and 3k and I get fantastic results. The 1k has a good material removal rate, and I love how hard the stone is. I used to set my bevels with it before I got my 400 stone, so I think you should be ok with it as your medium.

Steel will compress. That being said, it would have been nice to have a microscopic image of the edge to tell what actually happened.

Sounds like you want an awful lot of specificity  but when you talk about matching knives I wonder why you don't get some custom handle scales made for your Spyderco to match the smaller pen knife.

I saw one worn out once. It wasn't mine, but a friend's. His dad carried it for years, and my friend carried it exclusively for over a decade. He never once cleaned or sharpened it, and constantly flicked it for fun. Maker's mark was worn off so I don't know what it was, but I think it was as cheap ...

Some people just have a very narrow perspective on things. That's not meant to be an insult...we all do on certain things when we don't really step back and think about a situation thoroughly enough to understand what's going on. You'd be surprised how many people have no idea what it takes to manu...

I like the reverse grip wave possibly even better than the "normal" wave. I don't use my knife in reverse grip for a whole lot of EDC tasks, but then again I don't need wave-speed deployment for EDC tasks so I don't mind switching my grip then.

Good insight! I can honestly say that the only reason I don't carry serrated or combo blades is because I really prefer the serrations to be ground on the right side of the blade, and on 99% of knives they're ground on the left side.

Sure, but let's keep this in perspective. I've been reading knife forums for quite a few years and I don't think I've ever read a post about failure of even "inferior" washers like nylon or Nylatron, much less phosphor bronze. For most knives, maybe for all knives, ball bearing systems ar...

I don't think it's completely necessary in an effort to eliminate play, but I agree I would love to see the Southard pivot on a Para 2. My only complaint there is more moving parts usually equals more potential for failure, but in time we'll see if there are any complaints with the Southard. Caged ...
