Re: Happy Birthday to Our Favorite Metallurgist

Happy belated birthday as well! I certainly loved the years I lived in Colorado, the Front Range is one of the most beautiful spots in the country! ;) :D

Re: Spyderco 2020 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

I’m seeing both the K390 Manbug and Dragonfly on eBay, and my dealer told me the SpyOpera is shipping this week (or at least the CC ones). :)

Re: Strong Smell

i just got my cat in from bladehq so i know its genuine but i had bad smell and i found it was the oil. it has not gone away yet. The lubricating oil could absolutely be the source of what I was smelling as well, since those knives were pretty much slathered in it. Would also explain why the bags a...

Re: A Vision for the PM2, The XM-18 of Spyderco

It’s likely none of the customization or offering up of aftermarket parts is going to happen (at least any time soon, there was a thread about a custom shop recently). My comment was solely that Spyderco will nearly likely offer sprints or more exclusives with additional PM2 blade shapes in the comi...

Re: A Vision for the PM2, The XM-18 of Spyderco

Spyderco has shown off perhaps 5-6 different PM2 blade shape variations at recent knife shows over the last year or two - one of them was the recently released BHQ Tanto version. Trust me, they’re way ahead of you already on this particular topic. Cheers, Radioactive :)

Re: Strong Smell

I am fairly certain that the Cat/Chicago aren't made in the Taiching factory who produce some of the finest Spydies. It's another Taiwanese factory. OK, I made it “Taiwanese factory” now - is that sufficiently accurate for everyone?! ;) Also I know they do not come from the same factory in Taichung.

Re: Straight Spine Stretch

Thanks guys and your comments hit on the very reason I did want this version so much - I was worried this would be the only straight spine version they might make, or another may not come around again for many years. Plus there’s always the fact that if people don’t buy this version, it’s less likel...

Cat & Chicago are made in another Taiwanese factory, not mainland China like the Byrds or Tenacious, etc.
Sorry, I knew that and forgot about that. Doesn’t really change my discussion about the two knives (nor whether or not I buy the low-end ones). ;) :)

This is the straight spine blade (obviously) mounted into the brown G10/SS ZDP-189 frame of the Stretch 2 first released in 201...

Re: Strong Smell

I received a Cat and Chicago several years ago from a dealer (not Amazon) that absolutely stunk of whatever solvent that particular Taiwanese factory was seemingly bathing their G10 scales in. I run a research lab so I’m very well aware of different types of chemical smells and there was no question...

Re: Blacked out knives question

The black blades out of Seki like the recent GITD Delicas and Enduras are titanium carbonitride (TiCN)-coated, not DLC. :)

Radioactive, where did you get that clip? Is that from Aramis Akhmedov?
Hi Tom, yes it is. It’s his standard CF clip and it matches perfectly! I think I read on IG he’s been having trouble getting stuff shipped internationally with the pandemic but I’m not entirely sure. :)

Re: UKPK Custom Scales.

Someone here had a UKPK with custom Ti scales that had great texturing (might be more accurate to call it engraving). Basically they'd been carved to look like some kind of jigged bone scales. Does anyone happen to have a link to that knife? This one? It’s meant to look like tree bark. Work was don...
