Slept with one of my knives once. Having been stitched up in the emergency room, I decided to remain abstinent. ;D

O.K., bad joke. Seriously, I usually have a knife near my bed, though not really for self-defence. Just a habit.

AllenETreat: Thanks for your post. My father once told me that his father, upon leave from the front in Winter '42, tore down a poster showing Hitler, stomped on it, tore it to pieces, and screamed abuse at Hitler. My father (6 years old) was taken aback by his father's ferocity. To this day, he sti...

Thanks, all. It's bloody sharp, and the tip is like a needle. On top of that, it's small enough that it can be carried under a pullover without being noticed. Right now, I can't think of a better knife. Kudos to Spyderco! Stay ...

Ronin -- I couldn't resist

Hail, fellow SpyderNuts. Since the release of the Ronin, and the announcement there would be a folder version of it, I had been trying to convince myself that the Yojimbo would be my next purchase. Two weeks ago, I found I was actively searching for user reports involving the Ronin. One week ago, I ...

Good and bad. Bad because you'll have to get yourself another knife; good because your wife now understands why you are drooling over Spyderco's offerings. ...

A few years ago, I read the novel "Hannibal" (Thomas Harris). Now, the main character uses this knife, the Harpy. The description caught my eye, and, on the spur of the moment, I decided to do an internet search. Turned out such a knife existed, was available, looked extremely cool, and di...

Harpy. VG-10 steel, ss handle. Nice, sharp, small enough to ride in just about any pocket, yet large enough a blade to do something with it.

****, now that I've read how happy you guys are with yours, I've gotta get one, too. :-)

I have a VG-10 Harpy on my way, first. After that . . . maybe next month . . . more likely Christmas, though. ;-)

Yo Bernd! :-)

If you like the Spyderhawk, you'll love the Harpy. Small and mean, er, useful. ;-)

Castor: Yes, the Harpy IS that good. :-) One heck of a knife. The new ones are with VG-10 steel, the older ones ATS-55. Mine is the latter, and it's hellishly sharp. If it's your first expensive folder, be VERY careful. An ordinary penknife doesn't come close in terms of sharpness. Stay sharp, DDM_R...

It's really easy to use, too. :-) I've touched up my Gunting, Spyderhawk, and Massad Ayoob with the 3-1 stroke technique.

Great tool. :-)

204MF -- wow!

Hi folks! I have just received my 204MF sharpmaker. :-) The video's very instructive. After watching it once, I made a tentative attempt to sharpen an old pen knife (better to practise before doing it on my beloved Spydies!). Result: a knife that was so dull that you could lean on it without getting...

I have a Gunting, but the Yojimbo might replace it as my EDC. :-)

Arachnid: I hope you made that ******* pay big time. I'm a mellow fellow myself, but if anybody used one of my knives like that, I'd fly off the handle for sure. That said, I generally refuse to lend any of my Spydies. They're very sharp, and those people I know aren't used to such sharp knives, so ...

I carry the Gunting, sometimes the Spyderhawk as a backup. Never had to draw a knife (fortunately!). The Gunting is my favourite SD knife 'cause its design allows for using it closed, thus not escalating a situation any more than necessary. I have taken to carrying the Gunting tip-up -- yesterday, I...

TheGreatGonzo Well, obviously, a folder has the advantage of smaller size. :-) A fixed blade needs a sheath for proper storage; a folder does not. As to accidentally closing a Gunting -- if what I have read is true, the lock on the Gunting is VERY strong, so closing it accidentally shouldn't happen....

'ere, forget about covering postage for the knife. I can afford to stomach that. Students' job is paying enough to allow me that once in a while.
