O.K., bad joke. Seriously, I usually have a knife near my bed, though not really for self-defence. Just a habit.

Castor: Yes, the Harpy IS that good. :-) One heck of a knife. The new ones are with VG-10 steel, the older ones ATS-55. Mine is the latter, and it's hellishly sharp. If it's your first expensive folder, be VERY careful. An ordinary penknife doesn't come close in terms of sharpness. Stay sharp, DDM_R...

It's really easy to use, too. :-) I've touched up my Gunting, Spyderhawk, and Massad Ayoob with the 3-1 stroke technique.

TheGreatGonzo Well, obviously, a folder has the advantage of smaller size. :-) A fixed blade needs a sheath for proper storage; a folder does not. As to accidentally closing a Gunting -- if what I have read is true, the lock on the Gunting is VERY strong, so closing it accidentally shouldn't happen....

'ere, forget about covering postage for the knife. I can afford to stomach that. Students' job is paying enough to allow me that once in a while.
