I really like the sound my PM2 makes when opening and closing, so I'm always fiddling with it. Recently, I've been carrying that and an Enlan EL-01A (waiting for my 0561 to arrive, heh), and have been playing with them incessantly at work. Upside of working retail - nobody questions you having pocke...

Given that it was fine for 14 months, I can only assume something is going wrong with the sharpening process. It's less about time spent sharpening and more about finesse - I learned that the hard way when teaching myself to hand-sharpen. You can rub a knife against a stone all day without making it...

So... 3 similar VG-10 lockbacks or a CTS-BD1 ball-bearing lock.

I think you're splitting hairs. Choose the one that you like the looks of best.
Or get two :)

Yeah, aluminum clips or titanium clips would cost more. What is the Sanrenmu clip made of? I have a hard time imagining aluminum alloys making a good springy clip. I'm not sure what they're made of, but they seem to hold up pretty well. I hadn't considered a difference in available metals... Maybe ...

For me, there are functional and mental benefits to a larger knife. Mental: Confidence - I feel much more confident when hard-using a large knife. I'm always afraid I'll break a smaller one. Hm. I really thought I would be able to come up with more mental aspects. Anyway... Physical: Reach - Small b...

Painted vs Anodized pocket clips

It's a small thing to nitpick, but, ever since I bought the black Sanrenmu 710, I've wondered why every company doesn't anodize instead of paint their black pocket clips. Sure, it's not as immediately shiny, but it doesn't chip off. I gave a spare to a friend who absolutely beats the crap out of his...

Stropping vs ceramic stones?

I have a good number of knives, and I tend to keep them at a level of sharpness that is on par with any factory edge I've encountered, but I've always hand-sharpened with ceramic stones to get and maintain that final edge. Should I get a strop? Ceramic stones are abrasive, so I know I'm losing a tin...

That Domino is a wow for me. I was initially ho-hum for 2013, but i am now excited for a purchase this year :D Thanks, JD Right? Between that and the vague "Paramilitary fans: start saving" comment have me pretty hopeful. I'm glad I'm up for a promotion, because I'll be wanting some extra...

That seems to have helped - it still can spring back out, but much less frequently.

Edit: tightened up the pivot on the blade so it's a little stiffer to deploy. That, combined with the slightly loosened lock pivot, seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks, Chuck!

There's something I haven't tried yet - I lubricated it, but I never thought to loosen the pivot on the lock... Trying it now.

Endura Wave locking issues

I've had an Endura Wave for a couple months now, and I bought it second-hand off the 'bay. I cleaned it thoroughly and oiled it, and carried it around for a while, and I noticed a problem fairly quickly - if you try to wave it out with much speed, the lock arm can bounce out of the tang. It sounds l...

My first Spyderco was a Manix2 XL, and I most recently bought a Black Blade Tenacious (still waiting for it to arrive)... I started years ago with trash knives, knowing basically nothing about them and scoffing at the idea of spending more than 20 bucks on a knife. Then, little issues started poppin...

Yeah, that's my concern. Exotic steel, exotic handle, lock stabilizer, titanium... This thing is probably going to run $220 retail. Siiiigh.

Knives are inanimate objects. They feel no want or need to do anything. It is not a shame when a knife does not get used as a tool, as the knife does not care and has no needs to fulfill. If it satisfies what you want out of it, the tool is being used correctly. That said, I refuse to buy a tool I w...

You are comparing two much different knives though (grinds). Different brands even (possible HT). I don't doubt in many cases AUS8 will be surpassed by S30v. 4 times though is a huge difference. Also, my science is rough but AUS8 has more chromium an about half the carbon which would assume it woul...

Roughly how long does the AUS-8A blade last compared to the S30V one, just roughly as in half day vs a day ... In my experience, S30V outclasses AUS8 by about 4x the wear resistance, and is much more corrosion resistant. I was sharpening and cleaning off rust spots daily with my Counter Point 2 and...

Rope, tape, cardboard, straps, paper, and plastic. I tend to delegate tape-cutting to my utility knife, though.

It doesn't exist yet, but the upcoming Carbon Fiber S90V Manix2 XL. If it had a DLC coat, it would seriously be the knife I've always wanted the Manix XL to be.
