Re: Manix 2 XL - Ball Lock Too Stiff - Hints?

I was talking on both [lock and pivot]...
The pivot has definitely broken in. Initially, I had to tighten it to fix the play issue, and it was quite difficult to open and close. Now it flicks into place fine, either direction. Okay, I'm still considering adding a tiny bit more oil, but the knife ...

Re: Manix 2 XL - Ball Lock Too Stiff - Hints?

BREAK IT IN. Mine is smooth as oiled glass, and will close with an ever so slight wrist... not even a flick, and will probably gravity close soon when I depress the lock. It came so friggn' stiff that I had to use two hands to close it.
One of the best parts of folding knives is the honeymoon ...

Finger exercises.....keep opening and closing Fatiguing? How often do you need to open and close it? Just kidding, I am a bit of an obsessive flicker at times.

Re: Warranty Void Question: Why no Disassembly Allowed?

Bearing pivots are tough as **** to clean if you get some sticky gunk in there. There's always the option of soaking it in solvent and dripping some lube in, but if you don't take it apart to actually clean the bearings, problems persist. Ask me how I know. If that happens, should the knife be sent ...

Re: Manix 2 XL - Ball Lock Too Stiff - Hints?

Is the spring a standardized part by any chance? Is there a slightly less stiff spring that will fit?

I thought about cutting the spring too, but struck me as somewhat drastic… and one little mistake… :( :(

Manix 2 XL - Ball Lock Too Stiff - Hints?

Hi.

Just got my Manix 2 XL a few days ago, and really love the blade design. But I find the ball lock much too stiff. With thumb and forefinger, I can pull the tab back to unlock the knife, but it becomes fatiguing very quickly. As a counter-example, I can disengage an Axis lock with one finger ...

Thanks for the advice! Guess I'm a bit ahead of the game... I've been relying on the Sharpie trick since day one! I also have a good magnifying glass that I use for checking the edge, though a loupe sounds tempting. :)

I am able to wear the Sharpie off along most of the blade. This is the section ...

Sharpmaker - Tips for Consistent Sharpness Along Whole Blade?

I have a Sharpmaker with Ultra Fine stones, as well as a Spyderco Delica and Benchmade Mini Griptillian (combo blade).

I can get my Delica arm-shaving sharp, but not along the whole blade! Approaching the point, the knife remains too dull to shave, and it even is a bit "grabby" when slicing ...

My first Spyderco was a Delica. My latest Spyderco is a Delica. :D

The surprise for me is how knife-crazy I've gone in just a month, even purchasing a Knife Sharpener (a Sharpmaker). Even more surprising, I can actually [i[]sharpen[/i] a knife!
