Re: Worst Spyderco Designs?
I got a Titanium Salsa, new, from a friend, and a new MeerKat, gratis with my WTC knife years ago. Both of the locks went bad shortly after using for EDC, so they are two models that I do not collect (left a bad taste). Sent the Salsa back to Spyderco and got a Caly of some kind back instead, since ...

Re: Cricket with Webbing
Yes, that appears to be the same exact etch pattern that was made by (or created for) Linda Glasshart on several older SS Spyderco models (circa early 2000's). I have one of her old ATS-55 SS Delicas (CE) with the same etch pattern. I believe she made 28 of the Delicas with that etch. I'm not sure ...

Re: Big Slip-It
You know the DKPK is basically a shrunken Caly 3.5 with no thumb hole, that design as a 3.5 inch blade would be slipitastic Yes, I did, thanks. But I would want it 3.5" or larger up to 3 7/8" with the thumb hole. Of course a little more tension of the slip-it would be nice too. Sal hasn't...

Re: Cricket with Webbing
Please see ebay completed items listing below. One is SE and one is PE. From the winning bid, not very rare it appears.

Cricket with Webbing
This may be an old thread, but there are PE and SE stainless crickets with spider webbing on them (etched like Spin). These don't get a distinct model entry on Spydiewiki, so what are they and do they have a unique model SKU from the C29S or P? Thanks.

Re: Big Slip-It
You might be able to tighten the pivot down on a PITS and get it to stay shut, but probably never as strong as a true slip joint. The problem is the larger the knife, the larger and heavier the handle, and the heavier the handle is the easier it'll be to gravity drop the handle open. I can't get my...

Big Slip-It
Here in NYC, the length law is under (but not including) 4". Yes, that's the official law on the books if you are law abiding. However, the powers that be can make trouble for you by calling ANY knife than can be opened by holding the blade (not the handle) and flicking it, a gravity knife - if...

Re: An idea for those with blade length laws
I don't have a length law (except 4"+) here in NYC (yes that's the official law on the books). The powers that be get you with calling any knife than can be opened by holding the blade not the handle and flicking it, a gravity knife if it locks. Also, no clip exposed or your 'menacing'. Hence t...

GF/CF Model Numbering
I noticed that the glass fiber Lum is numbered C65CFP and all the other glass fiber knives are numbered CXXXGFXX. I also noticed that all of the knives besides the Lum have had a carbon fiber (CF) model produced before them, with the exception of the R and the Spin. Maybe Sal can answer this one: Do...

Re: Police Bare Aluminum - Different Finishes?
Thanks for the attention, Sal. I replied to the Deacon below with my best guess at what happened to this knife, unless your research can shed any light on the issue.sal wrote:Sorry Jay,
I just don't remember the details on your knife. I'll see if I can find more info when I'm at the office.

Re: Police Bare Aluminum - Different Finishes?
Food for thought: The bare aluminum Police came out several years before the Tufram Police. Both were made in Japan, but there was a gap of several years between them. All the Tufram Spyderco's I'm aware of use screw or domed pin construction. I'm assuming that's because the scales have to be coate...

Re: Police Bare Aluminum - Different Finishes?
Hi SpydieJay, The Police was made in bare aluminum and Tuffram coated aluminum. The high mirror polish was done to accept the Tuffram coating. It was challenging to do and the model was disco'd because of that. sal Hi, Sal. Yes, I have three three of those four and I'm still looking for the fourth ...

Police Bare Aluminum - Different Finishes?
I have a Police PE in bare aluminum (not Tuffram) with an almost mirror-polished finish. My Police SE in bare aluminum has a brushed aluminum finish. Other differences that may yield clues are that the PE has a Spyderco logo on the clip with no patent numbers and came in a pouch from a very avid Spy...

Re: Slab-sided Stainless Spydies
Yes, Paul mentioned the book, and I have seen it on ebay many times, sometimes sell at under $150,but never bothered with it, since like you said, many Spydercos have come out since. We do need an updated edition! Of course, also on my Extremely Rare list is any NIB 2-screw worker, but that would be...

Re: Slab-sided Stainless Spydies
Thanks again, Paul. JDSpydo thinks only 4 or 5 may exist, but if there were three years that are unknown and a least one 'run' had made them, there would be at least few hundred made, no? I too have never even seen a photo, and believe me, I've looked! Because I've dragged out replies in this post, ...

Re: So Tell Me About The PE Civilian....
Thanks, Paul. I agree the G10 PEs really would be semi-custom, and only Sal can answer whether Sakai did it with official consent. It is probably a similar situation with the rainbow anodized SS Cricket? Also a JM, and that one may be in the same boat as the blue anodized Ti Lum Tanto, which I recal...

Re: So Tell Me About The PE Civilian....
Deacon, I can't see that person's G10 PE Civilian any longer. In fact, the Forum search engine leaves a lot to be desired. Why does Spydiewiki say that <100 Japanese Market G10 PE Civies exist? And why didn't Sal ever chime in to that 2007 thread? I guess I just want to know if they exist or not (au...

Re: Slab-sided Stainless Spydies
According to the Spydiewiki, there was an early version of the Harpy with unbeveled handles. I've never seen one, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=C08_Harpy" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'm in the same boat, Jack. Logicall...

Re: Slab-sided Stainless Spydies
I have the same Worker with a three-screw clip in PE. I also have seen the Standard with beveled edges on Spydiewiki, but both my SE and PE Standards have right angle edges with integral clips. And, yes, Yab, that link to Spydiewiki you posted is what started my quest for this Harpy, only made in SE...
