Re: Anyone modify or improve their Byrds?

I just gave the one I have a good sharpening on the WE130. It's a treat to carry and cuts nicely.

Re: Loss of sharp...over time?

I have observed reduced sharpness overnight with carbon steels like 1095. I live in a humid climate without air conditioning. Oil is your friend. I have seen it with 8cr13mov too. Corrosion being the obvious culprit. I have an old Temperance that came with a smokin' sharp factory edge, still good. N...

Re: Anyone bought a Cat lately?

When I was scanning through recent threads my brain read this as "Anyone bought a Cat Lady?" That gave me pause.

Anyway, on topic... I have no experience with the Cat. But it looks like a handy little pocket knife.

New Wings first impressions

I picked up a new "Wings" this week and am quite pleased. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-h2UVX4Mvy-s/UU3Da1zsetI/AAAAAAAAA_g/3GdIIEwcNVA/s800/IMAG0323.jpg The fit and finish are really good for an inexpensive knife. Its a really big knife to accommodate both blades, but they provide a ...

I'm in. And totally down to host another (albeit humble) Spyderco giveaway. I don't have a broad range of steel experience to have a clear favourite. Phil Bolger said "there is no such thing as a bad boat, just ones made for different purposes". I say there is no such thing as a bad steel,...

When I was unpacking after my last move I found a Spyderco SharpMaker VHS video tape, new in wrapper! Must be a collectors item by now. But my SharpMaker is still working away.

I ended up using sandpaper on a flat surface to knock the shoulders and coating back. It worked fine. My becker necker took a very acceptable edge. I think sandpaper is the tool for removing those coatings, I'll save the rods for cutting steel. I like the 3mm ESEE knives, but that coating is like be...

diamond rods, cleaning and coated blades

I have some diamond rods for my Sharpmaker that work great. But I have only used them on blades without a coating. I have a couple 1095 steel blades with a coating (Becker, ESEE) and less than desirable edges. I would like to take them back to 30 degrees, which will involve taking off a lot of the c...

The Sharpmaker comes with a DVD that shows how to sharpen many kinds of edges including serrated. I believe that if you do a You Tube search you would find it there also. I would invest in a Sharpmaker. We all subscribe to the Spyderco facetube channel right? http://www.youtube.com/user/SpydercoKni...

Some airports do have facilities to mail items back to your home. The TSA may or not not have been helpful in directing you towards any such services though. It is a hit and miss thing depending on the airport. PHX saved my bacon and favourite neck knife. Nice folks, you could buy a padded envelope...

I tried to avoid touching the plastic cutting board but it may have come into contact with it.

I mean it was still sharp, but it had lost some of the edge. I peeled the apple too.

I picked up an abused sharpmaker in the Cabelas bargain cave one day, just because it was cheap and my lansky was packed away in storage. Cleaned the stones with comet and put it to work. One of the 3 sides of both the fine stones has some irregularities that I can feel. I just don't use those "...
