Re: S110V vs. S90V

It's been VERY noticeable for me in NORMAL kitchen use between S90V and S110V, that's S90V at 60 HRC and S110V at 65 HRC, both knives are .006" behind the edge. Is that a fair comparison of the steel then, given the 5 HRC points? That's over a long period of time. I touch up when the knives do...

Re: S110V vs. S90V

S110v is generally better in every way except ease of sharpening in my experience. Interesting. So you can notice a difference when using a knife made of S110v vs. one of s90v? I am betting no. Maybe one might be a lkttle more chip prone but a difference in edge retention with out a well laid out t...

Do your s90v and s110v knives have the same geometry? What differences do you notice?

Re: Spyderco model question

It doesn't need to be ZDP-189, just a similar class steel in regards to carbide volume . H1, and 8Cr13MoV/VG-10 is easy, but the other one isn't obvious. There are hawkbills not serrated in S30V, but not an obvious one serrated. I could get a non-Spyderco but I would rather have all three be Spyder...

Re: Tatanka vs Voyager lock strength test By Cold Steel

The reason it proves nothing is that if you use your knive as a knife, your lock will not fail. This argument comes up every time a knife fails. Some people use their knives pretty hard, others spread jam on toast. While it may be impressive to watch, are you really worried about your knife failing...

It proved the CS lock was stronger in those tests.

If the Spyderco won in these tests, would everyone here be saying the same things?

There is a lot to like of Spyderco knives over the CS knives... but the locks aren't one of them.

Re: I will now EDC only SE for 6 months.

Not a spyderco, but, the victorinox folders like I believe, the sentinel, have serrations from the tip but leave about 3/4ths of an inch of plain edge toward the base of the knife. They look like decent quality but have a left handed linerlock for some reason or another.(?) Very strange if you ask ...

Re: why not more S110V/S90V?

Is wear resistance really how you base whether or not one steel is "inferior" to another? What about toughness, corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening? If you had two knives with the same geometry, one made of S30V and the other S90V, and both were properly heat treated, you probably wou...

My Delica that I bought back in 1990 or 1991. The only reason I carry other knives is that I've carried this Delica for so long I just wanted to try different knives. It's still my favorite though.

Most days I can't tell if you are one of the scientists who is reporting accurate information or one who sees if he can get people to believe crazy information. Why it's it, in your tests, that the cheapest steel always performs the best? Why does it seem that people's perception is opposite your r...

Re: SpyderEdge on Folders?

have a couple of those kitchen knives, the serrations are more stretched out than the regular serrations which in general makes serrations less aggressive under high force but more smooth (less snaggy) under softer and faster cutting. This would seem to be a sensible design optimization for kitchen...

Re: SpyderEdge on Folders?

You'd have to define "traditional serrations" but I would imagine that spyderco thinks their serration patterns are "better." If they didn't, they'd just be using the style they found to be best. There are many serration styles though, so this is a difficult question to answer w...

Re: SpyderEdge on Folders?

What would the advantage of having that style on a folding knife be? If I had to guess they were designed that way to keep from contacting the cutting board constantly. I'd like to hear from Spyderco if they have done any comparative testing between the two serration styles. Is the SpyderEdge bette...
