Re: The best "worst" serrated knives I have ever owned.

I think that my knowledge and experience with serrated knives is fairly extensive. Probably more than most folks in the industry. That's why my first comment to Mike's thread was, "You're kidding, right"? Had he known more about Spyderco, or me, he wouldn't have come on like some kind of e...

Re: SPY27 and Rosewood

Hi Lorne, Welcome to our forum. The regular Mule Team shape is more like the Sage in your picture. The Mule Team customers asked us to produce a Mule team model that would be available all of the time instead of just when the particular steel in offered. So we responded by making a mule Team model i...

Re: My on going salt steel comparison journal

Hey Chinstrap, Have you tried to clean it off? We ran into a situation many years ago where one of our salts, used by a pro diver in Hawaii, had what appeared to be rust, but turned out to be an organic that had coated part of the blade and looked like rust. The knife was constantly wet. Once the kn...

Re: How about a PM60 Mule?

Hi, We don't use any programs on steel to predict. We'll leave that to Larrin. Our findings mostly agree with his, but sometimes they don't. We have our lab for testing, which we're always doing. I'm semi-retired, so I work on R&D, design and some forums. I don't have anything to do with hiring ...

Re: Knife that screams liner lock got the compression lock - why?

Linerlocks and Compression Locks appear similar, and they both come in from the side, they actually operate on totally different principals.

Re: Knife that screams liner lock got the compression lock - why?

Thanks Sal, I appreciate the insight. I don’t mean to impose but if I may ask - at Spyderco, is lock choice for a new model primarily the designers decision or is that decision influenced and made after an R&D process? Maybe it’s a unique process each time or decided another way all together bu...

This is really good information. Appreciate the Real World testing.

Re: How about a PM60 Mule?

Hi Jason, Thanx for the kind words. We all do our best and, "We all operate at different levels of imperfection". As far as Mule Teams go, as I said, we're always open. Someone brings up a material on this forum and there is a pretty good chance we might run a Mule with it. I watch reactio...

Re: Knife that screams liner lock got the compression lock - why?

Hey Notsurewhy, Cost of manufacturing a Compression Lock is actually more than making a Linerlock. Yes, we did things to our Linerlocks that made them more reliable, but the reason for the lower cost of the Military 2 was in other things that we did differently, rather than just he cost of making th...

Hi Jason, Glad you got your registration sorted. Also glad you decided to join. We do have a lot going on here, that I think you might find interesting.. I'm not sure I understand what you are talking about with lawyers, etc. I guess you'll have to be more specific. Sometimes I'm slow. But I'm not b...

Re: How about a PM60 Mule?

I'll be studying the composition differences next week. We're always looking for new and better. K390 came about because I was studying chemistry of BU steels and asked them to make some for me. I explained our program and the potential for future sales so they agreed to make some. It took a long ti...
