Hi Ladybug,

FRN permits a larger market that can afford the model.

Re: OLD BROCHURES ANYONE???

Erik Remmen's Clipit class was the first MBC class using our knives. In the '80's. A great person and a great trainer.

Re: yojimbo salt

Hi Guy,

Ultimately, if Michael's designs continue to be more popular, and if I had my way, we would eventually add an FRN model. Though we would probably maintain scaled versions. But in reality, we've got Michael working on something else first.

Will we see any SE edges in k390? I am curious about toughness in SE. I still have an SE zdp-189 Endura.

Hi Tbdoc,

We're testing now to see if it will hold a tooth. It is very difficult to serrate requiring dressing the serration wheel every 2 or 3 applications.

Hi Many,

As you do whatever you do, stop and take a few seconds to look at the edge to see and understand what you had just done.

Re: Civilian/Matriarch

Thanx Mike for the info and the article. I guess there is a lot of Spyderco History. Someone offered me a copy of his DVD for the Civilian. I appreciate the offer, but I do not steal someone else's intelectual propery... I have just found a link for a legal Civilian DVD from Comtech for $30.00 ex po...

Re: Spyderco Smock:Technical Showcase, Dud Knife

Hi Michael, Thanx much for your detailed explanation. It is appreciated as I am always studying the reactions of different models to different people. We try to serve a very large and varied market. I have learned that as one matures in a hobby, (any hobby), ones values and interests are always chan...

Re: Spyderco Smock:Technical Showcase, Dud Knife

Hi Lance, It's not really a button lock. Different animal. We hope to make a button lock in the Sage in the future, but it's different. The Smock is a Compression lock with a button release. The button release was part of the Compression lock patent along with other methods of unlocking it. We gener...

Re: Spyderco Smock:Technical Showcase, Dud Knife

Hi Michael, I guess I'm going to have to ask you the definition of the word "Dud"? Some would day a knife is a dud if it doesn't sell well. That's certainly not the case with the Smock. Some might say it's a dud if it doesn't perform as intended. It certainly opens. locks, closes and cuts. Some migh...

Re: Spyderco serration history

Hi 40mm, Serrations are a constant variable. They are made by plunging a formed wheel into the edge of the blade. Each time a serration is cut, there is a little bit of wear to the wheel. every 40 or 50 blades, the wheel is reformed with a diamond dresser. That added to the thickness of the edge, th...
