Re: The ARK has landed
What's the thickness on the shoulders of the edge bevels ? 2mm stock with a high hollow that does scream slicey.

Re: Blade usage profile poll
I sharpen and use them all yet some of them are rarely carried but they get used from time to time. I never carry my Warriors ( the regular and the Pygmy, i got an Al Mar too but it still has it's factory edge), i rarely Edc hawkbills and reverse S blades but they do get used at home. Quite frankly ...

Re: Spyderco and Cold Steel "collaboration" of sorts.
I never really liked CS' marketing style and the way they used to rip off designs in the past but this one seems substantially good for the price compared to the real deal, the icing on the cake that you can chose to get it in PE and frankly i'm glad as i really hate CS' serration pattern. I have no...

Re: Ceramic Bench Stone
I think it is just sand in the blue, so i dont think they will induce much wear as it is only a tad harder than a regular blade.
On the other hand i think the abrasive used in magic erasers and such abrasive rubbers is Sic so it is a bit harder than the alumina ceramic.

Re: Ceramic Bench Stone
If you dont use much pressure i found that a spritz of naphta, wd40 or mineral oil on a piece of rag works wonder to clean ceramic rods and stones but it wont remove the shiny steel spots you typically get on the medium with higher pressure. It worths noting that since i use a lubricant while sharpe...

Re: serrations geometry question
Yes i understand that in some circumstance you wouldnt want the edge digging in too much in wood and thus use the beveled edge against the wood to make more superficial curls but in my uses i find i just want the SE blade to aggressively bite in the material without having to rise the blade. I also ...

Re: serrations geometry question
I was referencing a chisel as a chisel ground or chisel edged knife, not a woodworker chisel. The right side on SE allows for a much lower angle of attack. Try it, it aint that hard to figure. Spyderco used to grind serrations on the right for lefties so with luck you can maybe still find a lefty Po...

Re: Steel choices for the Spyderco kitchen knives
I do love Mbs-26 and i would like to see a 2mm Endura in this steel or something like a Catcherman 2. The more i use my knives and sharpen them the less i feel the need for coarse grain and heavy carbide volume so i would be extremely interested to see Spyderco making a good workhorse thin bladed kn...

Re: Your thoughts on tantos?
The Zulu blade shape is somehow similar to a tanto minus the super duper sturdy tip and subpar cutting ability, also the belly is sufficiently extreme to initiate cuts the way you do with a secondary tip yet is easier to sharpen as you sweep the belly instead of dividing the blade into 2 distinct ed...

Re: serrations geometry question
I'm totally with you, i'm able to do finer and more accurate cut when i use a SE blade with my left hand, i can consistently carve wood easier and i'm still scratching my head asking myself why would you use a chisel edge the wrong way, but that's what you have to do with SE. Sal once said it was fo...

Re: the ideal knife for small flower cuttings
Cricket, Dodo, Spot, Lil'matri or even the hawkbill ladybug; Hawkbills are fine in the garden given that for a very compact blade you get an intricate and easy to control tip yet is able to do really rough pull cuts aswell. I also like wharncliffes for such work but i wouldnt use my Yojimbo2 as it i...

Re: Recurve Spyders: Their Main Uses? SE?
I own a few recurves and rarely carry them, as i find them quite a chore to reprofile and i don't really feel any advantage in my uses that would offset the pain. I agree they are sometime handy as it keeps the material being cut from slipping away on the belly. I find you get the same benefit with ...

Re: Spyderedge Injustice
The Catcherman is clearly one of those spydies i disliked a few years ago but now i just want to kick myself in the butt for not getting one and that would be my go to paring knife. I really like mbs 26 in the santoku and utility and i would be curious to test it on a folding knife especially with t...

Re: Spyderedge Injustice
The reason few chefs use serrated is quite simple, you dont get benefit from serrations when doing push cutting, rocking cut and such so a serrated knife is a specialty item, clearly not your 'bread and butter' knife. Also i handled a partially serrated butcher knife with a scimitar point in a resta...

Another vote for SS SE Police aka mean hunk of steel.
The Civvie is up there too as an immediately recognizable iconic blade.
Last but not least would be the Delica / Endura zytel with straight spine and the good ole pokey tip.

Re: When refurbishing a dull blade to high end class I found out that Sal was 100% correct
My white ceramics are all gathering dust as i barely use them anymore, even on SE i find i'm better served with something coarser, like roughened up medium ceramics ( using coarse or XC to cut scratches on the radius to lower the grit rating of the rod). I use the same method for PE but using flatte...

Re: How to find out the exact angle a knife was sharpened and/or is a copycat?
I'm curious about which models get the robot sharpening duty, i know for sure none of my Spydies were robot sharpened as all of them had significant variations and artifacts like recurves toward ricasso or warped grinds. The only really true consistent edges i ever got were SE with a notable excepti...
