In general I agree with MJ regarding an aggressive serration feature. If a blade features a partial serration this aspect of the blade leans heavily toward a utilitarian assist. However, a full serration such as the Spyderco Civilian - one of my favored offensive carry folding knives since it became...

Just saw this thread. First, while editor of Fighting Knives Magazine I truly enjoyed the opportunity to have Mike Janich share his then early work in FK. My two favorite articles from MJ are "Cutting Dynamics - When Flesh Meets Steel", FK / July 1995 and "Throwing for Combat - A Prac...

Just got my two Kydex custom sheathes back from Gary Griffin Knives in Bend, Oregon. One for Griffin Kiridashi and one for Wilson Combat blade. Absolutely excellent design and manufacture (handmade) work. No "clips" for carry/attachment. Nice flat Kydex slot platform so blade rides close a...

Agreed. Delica or Native. No black handle. Something that says "I'm friendly and utilitarian" like yellow or blue or orange (I love the orange for this kind of thing). Best option is to simply buy a good knife on the local market. Too easy. Do some research on what is available and buy off...

The handle screws of the Pygmy Warrior thread directly into the tang of the blade, but if you look closely, you'll notice they are offset. The screws on the left side of the handle do not align with those on the right because they actually fit into different holes in the tang. The top scales on eac...

Agreed. There were, to my understanding from Bob Taylor's initial eval, appropriate screw sets accompanying each knife. Not the case with mine if this is accurate. Pricing I concur. In my honest opinion this is a $165 to $200 dollar knife (and $200 is max). Shopping around is a good idea. Edge wise ...

Pygmy arrived. #32 Collector - the outlet I bought mine from offered they had one numbered and two non-numbered in stock - I took the numbered. Grip is superb. Forward/Saber grip is quite comfortable. Reverse grip is excellent. The grip panals on both sides, of this particular early run, appear to b...

Good deal. Mine should be here soon :) Point being (still) the reduced double tine guard will not provide the protection the original guard did. Has to be that way if you're constructing as this model is constructed / fabricated. Again, don't soak your hand in STP and try slamming it through a car t...

Mine should arrive any day now. I would hope carry configuration would not be confined to what the most recent pic shows. That's - to put it nicely - absurd if it is. Whether the upper sharpened feature is technically an "edge" or "sawteeth" or a "serration" is great fo...

Ordered my Pygmy last week.

Upon arrival will:

1. Black out the screw heads holding the scabbard together and then lok-tite into place.

2. Fit the grip and then lok-tite screws into place.

That should do it.

My sincere appreciation to Sal for ensuring the Spyderco Warrior brochure section about Michael D. Echanis was rewritten and the current editorial now far more concise, accurate and appropriate for the venue it appears in. The Echanis Family has been notified. I just posted - for the historical arch...

Marion - beautiful and well considered work, Sir!

How do I touch base with you to have some work done?

I have a Catcherman I'd like to have sheathed and a Wilson Combat Knife (fixed blade)

I know who re-invented it for the US market and in doing so created a much better mousetrap and sparked a new market for both custom Balis and production.

Our company (Company A, 1/19th SFGA), issued LaGana tomahawks in Kuwait and our teams prepared to go into Iraq. They were, as Pete LaGana envisioned when he designed them for use in Vietnam, handy and more than adequate for both utility and CQB. We had several 'hawk instructors in the company, mysel...

And it should be inexpensive so you don't mind losing or leaving it behind if necessary - and therefore as easy to have two of the same on hand. Throwing knives is a great way to have fun and at the same time develop one's hand-eye coordination as well as sense of balance. Ever so often I stop by a local dojo where we can throw small knives, spikes and stars. Great fun - and all the above. MJ's observations hold true, IMHO. Historically and ...
