Re: Apple to make gold-ceramic 'alloy' for watches.

Deacon, A friend of mine emailed me a statement you made and I'm compelled to respond. You said, "making a stainless steel knife blade or handle with a "gold-like color" has been feasible for quite a while. About 20 years ago a Spyderco distributor by the name of John F Jensen had a b...

Yes, that is one of our knives :D Sorry, there are no more gold (tin) or black (tialn) of any model. Java, nice collection! :) The one on ebay is a very good deal. I went back as far as 2000 and we did not sell it to anyone in Illinois (the ebay seller location). This fellow must have obtained it el...

I don't think it is an original Gunting.

The C68 had a 2 7/8" CPM 440V blade with a compression lock.
The lock release set on top of the G10 handle.

Unless you have a proto.
Spyderco should be able to tell you if they made a C68 Liner Lock proto

It is probably one of our knioves. With each one we include a letter of description and warranty. In part here's what our letter says: " THE GOLD IS TITANIUM NITRIDE (TIN) WHICH IS VERY HARD AND EXTREMELY DURABLE. IT HAS BEEN TESTED AND PROVEN BY BUCK KNIVES TO ALLOW A SHARPER EDGE AND SIGNIFIC...

Tak Fugata was a knifemaker who I think also worked for or at Sakai Knives. The Tak Fugata knives were imported and distributed by Spyderco. I believe they were made expressly for Spyderco but not sure. They were never sold or advertised as a Spyderco knife, only as a Tak Fugata. It was during this ...

All the ones I ordered and received were not numbered and were not seconds. I just looked at the one I kept (C53P) and it holds true, no number, no notch.

You are correct Rob.

The coated knives on our site were done by us, not Spyderco. They are not warranteed by Spyderco, they are warranteed by us for life of original owner.

The Deacon has described it correctly. "if there is coating on the serrations but none on the parts of the lockbar and blade tang that only become visible when the knife is partially open, then it's probably one of the JFJ aftermarket coated knives." Also, ours were G2 stamped. If it is on...

All of the WD-40 suggestions are correct!

The G-10 will/can dry out over time. When you leach out the oils with cleaners you exacerbate the drying out.

WD-40 is what I use, however you can use any light oil to restore the G-10.

Not to worry , your G-10 experience is common and expected.

A distributor's perspective: I grew up in the knife business with Spyderco for many reasons. Mainly because they have an excellent product and staff and Sal abhored deep discounters (wouldn't sell to Gun Show and Internet dealers) and enthusiastically protected their price structure and their dealer...

When G-10 drys out it turns gray. Any G-10 will do that even laying in the box on a shelf.

Easiest fix is spray it down with WD-40. WD-40 will not harm the G-10. Or any light oil will do. I use WF-40 frequently to clean my EDC Impala, no problems.

40% off MSRP is a good price when you consider they paid between 45-50% off MSRP.
