Re: Wood for scales

I wouldn't do it if I were you. Unless it has a great sentimental value. Then it's up to you really. Otherwise it has no decorative qualities worth mentioning and it does not matter how dry or hard it looks as a beam it will not be that hard or dry as knife scales. Unless you stabilize it as advised...

Re: Mule Team quantity discussion

That's easy to say when it isn't your capital tied up in inventory that isn't moving and won't generate significant profit when it does. With the current interest rates the cost of capital is a far cry from what it used to be. The same as with the ready-made scales and easily available sheaths: Mul...

Re: Mule Team quantity discussion

I believe that creating availability is the only reasonable option. And first of all I would suggest to consider that ready made scales and sheaths for Mule were not available before and are now: sure that influences the demand! If you look into the posts re the latest issue it is easy to see how th...

Wow! That is very impressive! I like your decision on tubes: they have this unique look now! And the sheath colors match the handle combination: nice touch!

It looks very cool! I like the micarta finish. But it would not as nice without that pin accent. Well done!

Re: Show your Mule

So here is one more. It is the last of SPF 27 I've got in stock. Will use something else next. This time it is ebony and curly bubinga with brass studs. I like curly bubinga nearly as much as I like kingwood. Soaked it in oil for longer than usual, so it came out a bit darker than I expected. Ebony ...

Re: Show your Mule

So I continue going through my stock of PSF27 Mule blades. That would be the last one with that steel. It has a combination of king wood and snake bean wood on the handle with brass studs. https://i.gyazo.com/53de0e1570a64e11a019316ec5199474.png https://i.gyazo.com/48eacf94076a419080f4859eb3546883.p...

So here is another 19P with PSF27 blade and a handle of ebony and maple burl. https://i.gyazo.com/9da05e8ed652718b1d12d4736865bf08.png https://i.gyazo.com/4ac70c799c1e50a992ab49cb1de41ca1.png https://i.gyazo.com/7eca6ac79b3a1da269c51f5be188368e.png The ebony was a pain to work with this time. Re: High end Tenacious

I would rather see Tenacious with some nice carbon tool steel. I do not know what Spyderco thinks about its blue steel experiment but I personally did not get enough. I am not really looking for some expensive "top line knife" from China, no offense! And in general why to want another knif...

Re: Show your Mule

Just finished the next one. You only need to get me going.... This one is still the same MT19 with SPF27 with pieces of bubinga and olive on the handle. Actually picked some left-overs from another project I just could not bring myself to throw away. Thus that shape: had to spend a bit more time fit...

Re: Show your Mule

Here is another Mule that I have completed. I guess it was seven years between the first Mule and this one! It is MT19 with PSF27 on the blade and briar/cocobolo on the handle. https://i.gyazo.com/fdfd064665d91c806a6a26a51bd2aab7.png https://i.gyazo.com/bb59a7ac33b14f044fccfc8aa4e833d2.png https://i...

What you have described there is a burr as Evil D has already pointed out. That is actually a good sign. I have had some experience (with VG-10 including) with a heat treatment leaving edge on a brittle side, so it would never have a burr forming. That wouldn't be so good! I always sharpen by hand a...

Well, I do not know much about Amish way of life at all. But from what I have heard, I would probably expect them to consider marketing-driven branding, super-steels, flashy new designs, everything we hold dear just a vanity. Well, even stainless steel in knives is essentially nothing but an excuse ...

The only thing that I could come up with was to make another size in-between. I think it would make a great user knife: bigger than Delica, but smaller than Endura.

I think Spyderco has got plenty of tactical knives: lots of them are in the fixed blade department, exactly where you would probably expect to see a proper tactical knife to start with. There are very few knives there which would not be tactical. As for folders: most of them have been mentioned alre...
