Re: Wood for scales

I wouldn't do it if I were you. Unless it has a great sentimental value. Then it's up to you really. Otherwise it has no decorative qualities worth mentioning and it does not matter how dry or hard it looks as a beam it will not be that hard or dry as knife scales. Unless you stabilize it as advise...

Re: Mule Team quantity discussion

I think the Spy27 Mule would make a great regular production 'kit knife'. It's not some crazy carbide monster, it's stainless, it would work as a general knife for most people, and (perhaps most importantly) it's proprietary to Spyderco. I think this makes sense to me. Having a Spyderco "kit&q...

My personal grail knife

Long before I got Spydie bit, I have been watching Ray Johnson forge knives. I have been visiting Silver Dollar City, outside of Branson, MO, for about 18 years. Every year, I have gone and just watched Ray work. A few times, I spoke with him for quite a while. Just a great guy. But, I had never bou...

I made the pre-order list. I called them and they said that I am on the "second" batch, but they don't know when it will be delivered by Spyderco. Let the waiting game begin.

Hmm I wonder which round I'm in. I can't remember if it said pre-order when I placed mine, but my account is down the full 149.95. Either way, pretty excited. This is my first PM2. I've been waiting for a sprint/exclusive to come around so I could get one at actual price and not the inflated second...

. Edit: all of the above is just my opinion...which ain't worth much. Any of the knives mentioned will clean a deer. **** the Indians did it with a sharp rock. ;) The correct answer to your question is get him whichever one you think he will like the most. Ahh, but have you ever seen or felt a shar...

I too prefer a fixed blade. I once cleaned a deer with my Buck 110, and it worked, but cleaning all the "gunk" out was a pain. Plus, if you want to try to split the rib-cage, the extra strength of the fixed blade would be better. Make sure whatever knife he gets has a good guard or finger ...

Same here. I emailed last night and got a reply this morning. They said they were checking orders and would get back to me. A few hours later, they emailed that they had 2 waiting for me. I called right before they closed and I only ordered one, so someone else is going to be very happy this evening...

I work with some folks from Sandvik. We use their 25-22-2 and 2Re10 for some exotic corrosive applications. I mentioned Spyderco to this guy who is a mid-level manager in their weld materials division before, and he brought out a couple of pretty cool knives. (Didn't give me one though) I will put t...

Funny, or sad, thing recently happened. I have carried a knife for the past 10 years or so, nearly every day. I like to have it, and do find uses many days. So a guy at work gets cut using a knife (wrong tool for the job in this case) and now we have a cutting tool policy. I can basically use one at...

In my experience, the pins stick out when you use a soft sanding platform medium like a slack belt, sandpaper or sanding sponge because they will flex around the hard bits and keep on taking outnthe soft bits. A hard sanding block will keep the flexing down and allow the grit to only hit the high p...

Mule handle questions

Hello all. I have a few mules I am trying to get handles on. I really like the beauty and character of wood, so that has been my focus. My first one used quilted maple and stainless pins. The first question I have is how do you keep the pins at the same height as the wood while sanding? Obviously, t...
