Re: Chaparral with full steel liners (not nested)

Perhaps already answered elsewhere, but will the birdseye maple Chaparral have full or nested liners? Not sure I care for not having full steel liners. I was kinda disappointed when my Sun/Moon Chaparral arrived.

Re: Hope for a Chaparral with upgraded steel?

Only thing I wouldn’t care for would be the likely upgrade in pricing to go along with upgraded steel. I’m not sure there would be that noticeable of performance difference between XHP and a “better” steel in real world use. Since the chaparral is a fairly light duty model anyways.

Re: SOLID Carbon Fiber Chaparral

I’m guessing then you don’t care for the layered CF scales out now? Not trying be be snarky, just wondering if solid CF would feel/handle better? I don’t have a knife with solid CF, so I dunno. Either the marbled or shredded would look good I think.

My Spyopera is having significant lock stick when opening. When i snap it open its fine but if i slow open it the lock bar doesnt sit flush and i have to hit it against something to depress it. Re: Cardboard cutting; Steel vs. Geometry

As mentioned, an EDC knife is carried more in mind to perform a variety of daily tasks well, and not really super excel at any one thing. When I worked in a warehouse, where we cut tons of cardboard and those nylon bundle strap things, I used a dedicated razor knife for that rather that my EDC. Card...

Re: Mercy killing with your Spydie?

I’ve had to do this many times with squirrels, or birds that have hit the house, whatever the critter. It’s best to do it as fast as you can and end the suffering. On smaller creatures, and I know it sounds gross, if there isn’t a hunk of firewood or similar handy, I’ll stomp the head flat in one mo...

Re: Sharpening S110V

I touch up the edge on my N5 Forum in S110v every few days and it's just a few strokes on the UF rods when I walk by and think of it. I keep the Sharpmaker set up all the time in my workroom so it's pretty easy. But by doing this, I'm keeping a really nice edge all the time. Can't imagine going sinc...

Re: The sooner the PM3 gets here...

The para 2 has a finger choil so the minuteman will too if reports are correct that it's the same as the para 2 but shrunken. My bad - didn't phrase that correctly. Not sure the proper terminology, but like how how on the N5 you can choke up on the blade by moving your finger forward of the handle....

Re: The sooner the PM3 gets here...

Not trying to beat a dead horse, well maybe a little, but I've not handled a PM2. But I've several N5 and it's a favorite one of my Spyderco models. Basically what I'm gathering then, it'll be similar to the N5 in size, but no finger choil, and a more pronounced thumb ramp. Little bit different hand...

Re: The sooner the PM3 gets here...

So on this model, the handle will be more slender as compared to a Native 5 G10, right?

But as far as overall length closed, it'll be pretty close to the N5? Or even a tad shorter?

I do like the N5, but my one small issue with it is the wide/tall handle. More slender would be awesome.

Re: Chaparral - Back Lock Mechanism

Stupid question perhaps - IIRC, I read the Native 5 lockback mechanism as being reworked/improved. Is this design the same as on the Chap, or no? If no, explain the difference to me please just so I know. Curious about it. Tnx!

Re: Buying seconds from the SFO? Only in person?

I have no issues with seconds as long as it's clearly stated. The current forum Native I use is a second and I cannot see a thing wrong with it. Have no idea. Spyderco must have some stringent standards or something. I've seen other posts as well indicating that the second they purchased looked to b...

Buying seconds from the SFO? Only in person?

Ok, sorry for the dumb question but I've weak search powers. To purchase seconds from the SFO is that only in person? I'd really like to get another forum Native 5 in a second as a spare and not pay the auction guys prices, but I'm guessing that ship has long sailed. I know they've a FB site, but I'...

Re: Are Spyderco prices getting out of your reach?

I don't know if Spyderco has actually done me a favor with all their various collars over the last few years. None if them really appealed to me at all. To me, they just seem too tacticool. And their standard line seems to have various models that are very similar to each other just perhaps varying ...

Re: Pre-need replacements: Have you ever needed to use one?

Being quite OCD and paranoid, I will often buy a backup model of a knife I really like out of a concern it will be discontinued by the time I should ever need it. Even though I've never actually worn out a particular knife. I rotate knives too often for that I think. I always figure that if I keep t...

I'm a pretty basic knife guy and I'd get pretty excited to see the C03 Hunter with modern build materials. I'd buy several. Do a happy dance and everything.

Re: Poll - Flipperized Native 5?

I'm sorry but I'm perhaps in the tiny majority now days who wish flippers would just go away. And I can't fathom the thought process behind the models that are put out that actually aren't a bad looking knife, but only offer it as a flipper with no thumbstuds.

Re: Safer way to close a knife ?

His videos are always pretty entertaining and tends to give sound advice IMHO. With my lock back Native 5, I'll just flip it over so it's edge up in my hand, press the lock in with my thumb and start it closing on my thigh, getting my thumb and fingers out of the way in time. The knive closes pretty...

Re: Best for arthritis?

I've a form of RA in my hands, among other places as well, and the Native 5 G10 works well given its kind of wide/deep handle and it's thickness. All of that aids in gripping the knife has there is more to hang onto. The lockback is easy enough to disengage for closing with one or two hands. If a li...
