Re: Watu - aftermarket scales?
So, I did indeed contact the maker Foofie referred us to above - Chris from Trifect Custom Shop - I went with a nicely-figured fiddleback Koa as my wood of choice since I have several other custom Spydercos with that kind of wood scales. I’ll certainly take some more pics myself when they arrive to...

Re: Plastic Knives are BEST.
I actually have no knives currently in g10 . Is it possible to have no black g10?! All the g10 has been rescaled to micarta or wood, Some of my frn are now wearing micarta as well... so for me: micarta > frn >> g10 and I agree that Golden and Seki frn feel different - but I like both. 10 years ...

Re: Watu - aftermarket scales?
Just a quick update. I found a woodworker who is interested in making scales over on BF. He is making me a set of Watu scales. He spent the time to import them into CAD as well. I think this means that the next set will be much easier to make - so if anyone is interested... I will add that he has be...

Re: Your suggestions please
A different possible approach - choose based on blade shape in addition to size? You mentioned the trailing point of the Rhino - so perhaps choose a wharncliffe, a leaf, and something in between? I would consider a manbug salt/sheepsfoot Dragonfly (k390 just around the corner...) maybe a hawkbill (o...

Re: Spyderco Lock Type Preference
I voted comp lock - most of my current users are comp lock, and I especially like the comp/button lock on the Smock and wish it were adapted to the Para3... That said, mid-lock (Jazzlica) is really growing on me for all the listed reasons. I would add too that the midlock can accomodate a thinner bl...

Re: Loving my wharnies
Interesting how clearly more negative the blade angle of the Endura wharncliff seems to be compared to the other two knives in the pic. I also really appreciate the negative blade angle on the Endura. The Dragonfly is not a fair comparison, since it started life as a leaf and the wharncliffe edge w...

Re: Loving my wharnies
I know Sal has confirmed the k390 wharnie delica. Haven't seen any confirmation of the wharnie dragonfly - but lots of suggestion that it is one of the models in the works. My fingers are crossed.

Loving my wharnies
I had these knives out for a different pic, so thought I would take a family photo. Little mods to each (or big ones?) has made each a keeper. Dfly is ZDP, delica is Hap-40, and the endura is the only vg-10 I think I own  I think the k390 series will eventually be released in wharncliffes as we...

Re: Endura 4 handle mod
And, not to derail the OP, but the scales are made of frn - fiberglass reinforced nylon. I know the fiberglass in g10 dust is horrible for the lungs. Does anyone know if the frn dust is similarly bad? Respirator?

Re: Endura 4 handle mod
I do not have 2XL hands (more like L), and the first bump on both the endura and delica made the knives so uncomfortable that I could never keep any of them. Then I heard about this mod - and it really works! Not to oversell it - but it made a night/day difference for me, such that I am buying endur...

Re: Do y'all know where to get custom wood scales made?
I believe Cuscadi recently started doing the frn dragonfly - just make sure to specify which one you are looking for (g10 vs frn). Also for a liner less knife, the wood alone may not be rigid enough and you may need to add g10 liners. I have a set of koa scales from cuscadi for my ukpk. Very nice wo...

Re: All I want for Christmas...
I have been looking for Watu scales - similar issues. Part of the problem - going the cnc route takes a lot of time and effort. This is only worth it for most shops if the scales will sell at high enough volume to offset the startup cost. It sounds like the Caribbean may have a rabid but small follo...

Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - HANDLE OPTIONS final poll
Thank you Superfool. You have both patience and persistence! I just voted for ivory g10 - and as of now, it looks like the people commited to buying a g10 version is 28. I know this doesn't include a lot of people on the British forums - but it puts in perspective how difficult these small passion p...

Re: Damasteel UK Penknife UKPK - DAMASTEEL PATTERN
The actual steel type used is _a lot_ more important to me than the pattern. I VASTLY prefer DC18N to DS93x or DS95x. DC18N is only available in Odins Eye™, Grosserosen™, Hakkapella™, Thor™, Hugin™ and Rose™. So basically, I vote for "any pattern of DC18N" and I vote against "DS93X o...

Re: Damascus UK Penknife UKPK
Costs are another story. The Damasteel alone will probably add 25% to the cost of the "Entry Level" FRN UKPK. The current FRN version made in Golden is about as inexpensive as we could make the tool. Handle material and the processing of the material adds quickly. The cost of the s110v ve...
