Definitely, good info, but, in my experience, from years of metalworking and heat treating, the first test can be pressing down any deformities on the opposite side. And testing, on the edge, would be rather futile, even though the H-1 is a work hardened steel.

I got a VG-10 foliage green Ladybug, from Amazon, today, and it is very very sharp, but I'm thinking of the Ladybug salt hawkbill, too. It has a SE, and I think it will be just the ticket to open boxes and stuff.

Thanks for the advice. I have a sharpie for marking the edge of the blade. Will probably get the UF stones, next month. I also have an 8x loupe for my aging eyes.
