Superb customer care from Spyderco!

Waw man, I tought, dzjees, what's the deal with those Spydie-nuts...? But now, I too can testify that they indeed do remarquable things.

Long story in brief (complete blah-blah on http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...highlight=video):

Instructional video of "204" - fit for European electro?

I received my Sharpmaker from BestKnives...

The optional diamond rods were moose in the bug bow without any protection and what's more... The instructional video only shows distortion... perhaps it is because we use PAL over here (not very nice of BestKnives for not warning me).

What can there ...

ULTRA-fine rods for the 204 - replaces stropping and steeling?

I hear that they are really really fine gritted and offer quite some "polishing-action".

In that way, can they serve as a butcher's steel voor re-allining an edge?

Is stropping required after gently brushing these rods?

No particular angle, was thinking out loud... If you put 2 wood blocks under the rightside of the table and then two at the lefside, as long as the 204 is excactly in "lenghtwise middle" it should copy the angles on both sides.

How did Spyderco get its name (It does sound nice, doesn't it...?).

I suppose it's a bug thing en the "co" is for company... But what have bugs to do with knives :-)

And why the letter "Y" in setad of the "I"?

Modify sharpening-angle of "204"

I do not yet have a Spyderco sharpening system, however, I have ordered one (along with the diamond sticks ;-) ) but hear me out please.

From what I've heard I can make out that the 204 has 3 pre-set sharpening angles... But what if you want a bigger or smaller angle just this once...?

Well, I ...

Yes, I completely a agree with Mr. Shang Chi. Even the most highend blade needs a trained and skillfull hand to really shine. Hardware without decent control is of little real value to its owner. Thanks for the fresh input.

I'm really considdering to precisly formulate what I am looking for and if the big brands don't meet my needs close enough I think the best (not cheapest and fastest) option is to have one custom made. Still there remains one big question, who can I trust with this sensitive task?

I find myself to be tempted by that sharpmaker, it seems "a musthave".

Does freehand/benchstone sharpening, when done appropiatly holds any added advantages. And are those advantages just optional or are they worth the risk screwing up ;-)
Thank you, I highly appreciate any reaction
