Per the OP, I own a Byrd rescue blade and quite like it. I have nothing but good things to say about the quality. 8CrMoV3 steel has some limitations versus VG-10, of course. But for what it is, the Byrd is a great knife. The lack of a window piercing tip doesn't bother me much. I believe I could cra...

I bought mine in the last few days of 2011. After Christmas

So it's technically a 2011 release, but only by a few days.

Since opinions are sought, mine is to NOT make a separate forum for Byrds. The reason for this is that I do have interest in both Spyderco branded and Byrd branded knives. And I don't have time to surf two different sub-fora. So if there were a Byrd sub-forum, I suspect I'd end up missing out on goo...

It's mass, but also friction. The FRN models have a little more drag. I have to wrist snap when I open my Delicas. You get used to it.

Hey MSM what are some of the advantages you've found using a "recurve" blade ??>> also have you owned other recurves to compare to the Zulu? Also what methods do you use for sharpening recurves? Well, per my post above, my usage of the Zulu has all been light. The recurve blade will open ...

I bought one almost solely because it was so different from my other knives. Along the way, it has become a favorite (top five anyway) EDC for me. It's in the general range of my favorite size. It also has a tremendously smooth opening and lock up. If you're a liner lock fan at all (I am) and you li...

I love the Cricket. I'm not a woman, but for either gender who wants a small, non-aggressive, kind of funky blade with high functionality for its size it's a good choice. I like the stainless model because of the frame lock.

I own both and carry the Sage 1 a lot more, simply because it's lighter and a bit fancier looking. It's small enough to be a light carry, yet still has a very functional sized blade. The Manix 2 is great, but carries a bit like a rock. Some days I'm in the mood for a heavier knife. Other days, not s...

I agree. The partially occluded hole of the Yo2 makes it less than the para 2 for me, if I absolutely had to use it for SD. I've tried to be fast with the Yo2 and almost cut myself several times when my thumb tried to push on the edge. I also don't like inertial openings for SD. I'd take a less ide...

I own both and agree the Para 2 is somewhat better for EDC. The size and weight difference between the two knives isn't enough to notice. And I do think the Yojimbo2 has fine functionality for EDC. However, it looks pretty aggressive to pull out at the office. Of course, so does the Para2, depending...

Generally, I see a gent's folder as a small, non-intimidating knife. Some also see them as "elegant," which usually means handle materials that are on the nice end of the range. Of Spyderco models, a G-10 Dragonfly or Chapparel would qualify for most of us, although some folks out in the w...

I don't have the Balance, but do own the Zulu. Therefore, I can express my admiration for the Zulu, but don't think I can help much with a comparison for you. I just love the Zulu, however. The fit and finish is excellent and the deployment is perhaps the easiest and fastest of the twenty or so Spyd...

The Dragonfly Salt is a popular choice and is almost unnoticeable in the pocket. However, I find the Salt 1 to be almost unnoticeable as well. And I appreciate the larger size handle in my large sized hands. And the price difference between a Salt 1 compared to a Dragonfly Salt is negligible. I own ...

Combo edges do work, they may not sell as well, which is why I don't complain about more of them being made by Spyderco. I never really understand why people can't accept there is a time and place for any type of tool. This. I understand perfectly well that they are not everybody's first choice. Th...

Just another data point here. I started to strip out my Tenacious screws while trying to convert the clip to tip up carry. Rather than bugger them totally, I abandoned the effort and left it tip down. I should try to obtain some replacement screws from Spyderco. I hate to ask, but would really prefe...

If someone who have Endura and Tenacious could write a comparison, will help a lot. I own both, as do many here. The Endura model has a higher quality steel in VG-10, which not only holds an edge better but is also more corrosion and stain resistant. That said, 8Cr13MoV steel isn't junk either, and...

I have used mine when there is one thing that I wish to make into two or more things. I used it to trim some Weedeater line recently, for example. The bottom line is that it's a wharncliffe blade, which is totally useful for many things. The only "iffy" thing about the Yo2 as an EDC user i...

Answered no. But I did cut the b3j33zus out of my finger last week closing a Case Peanut. Attempted a one handed close on the small pen blade while working some food prep with my left hand. Ouch. As with all my knife cuts, it was clearly user error.
