Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2025 Report

Comparing the Cobol and the Nand, they should change it to flat screws like the Nand has. The design is so clean the domed screws stand out too much.

Thanks for the update. Does anyone know where I can expect the best deal on one?

Re: Reveal 16! Live!

Excited for the spynano and glad to see Paul Alexander back with a fresh design. I'm not a fan of slip joints but this looks secure enough for the thin blade.

It will probably be more expensive than the spymyto, as it seems Lionsteel worked with Spyderco to keep the price down on that one

Re: 2020 SouthFork Sprint Poll

S90V was too expensive for me. Out of those I chose AEB-L bc it's stainless and is won't blowout with fine edge angles. I would prefer a newer stainless like SPY27.

Off topic but I will instantly buy any Paul Alexander sprint runs that come out.

Re: Ikuchi

So to identify if one got a CQI version or one from the initial production design you can check if the tip is buried deeper inside the handles? Can you see a difference in the washers without diassembly too?

Sorry, too lazy to read the whole thread....

I don't know if you can see a difference ...

Re: Ikuchi

I only have the CQI version, but I've never sharpened it so if it's shorter then that's how it is. However it's been long enough for what I need it for. Lovely knife and makes me excited for more Paul Alexander designs.

It does, the tip is a few mm lower.
That's true, mine has never bit me.

A Super Blue Parata would be my choice. With the light grey G10 of the other Super Blue models. Uncladded would match my Caly 3.5 too.

Re: Super Blue

Does anyone know of any powdered metallurgy or spray formed steels similar to Super Blue? I love Super Blue but I think the finer grain structure is also neat.

Re: Any interest in more Phil Wilson collaboration?

I'll take whatever as long as it's affordable. I believe Sal said previously that the Chinese factory was only comfortable using 8cr13mov. So unless they use another factory and jack up the price it won't change.

If there's enough interest in a mid range one that's cool too though. I'll just wait ...

Re: When is the Ikuchi going to get some CQI?

My CQI Ikuchi doesn't have that problem. When closed the tip is not flush with the liners. My finger doesn't catch the tip even if I press down on it.

Re: Sharpest Steel

What about thinness behind the edge? It's not technically sharpness, but a scalpel gives the impression of being sharper than a bushcrafting knife. I'm reminded of the blowouts on the original Nilakka in S30v with no secondary bevel.

Re: Which Spyderco BladeSteel Property (ies) Do You Value Most?

I think edge retention is overrated. I'd rather have a steel that can take a low edge angle. If it's only stable at 40° inclusive and above, I don't really care how long the edge lasts.

That said, I like toughness and wear resistance, in that order.

Re: passing on the Kiwi 4

I'm hoping for a White steel sprint run with DARK grey g10. Although the Kiwi4 with carbon fiber scales would be tempting.... I just don't like how hard ZDP is to sharpen.

I mean couldn't he have done the same with a fine sharpmaker stone? Not to knock the quality of the UF stones or Mark's sharpening skills at all, I'm just curious if this can be done with a lower grit.
