Re: Best knife for deer skinning.
That’s been my thought this whole time. I think clean up with a fixed blade may be a lot easier. Moran would be my first choice for a Spyderco dedicated to this role. Ark has a nice shape for skinning but the edge retention is low. I could see using it for rabbits, squirrels, small birds etc., but d...

Re: Best knife for deer skinning.
The stretch sure does look really good to me. I think it’s between the stretch, Moran. And Mule team. To bad I can’t afford to buy them all.

Re: Best knife for deer skinning.
Anybody have any opinions on the Spyderco Enuff vs the Moran? They both have VG-10, kind of the same blade shape. All I see is maybe the Enuff would offer maybe a better grip.

Re: Best knife for deer skinning.
Thanks! I figured that. It did seem like a pretty intense task for a steel of that caliber. That also makes sense. The knifes that have interests me mentions in the thread are a Mule team, stretch,Moran, and still kinda interested in a H1 if anybody has any insight to how well the steel may hold up ...

Re: Best knife for deer skinning.
Very nice pictures. Good suggestions as well will good evidence to back them up. Since this thread is about skinning, I don't suppose anyone's sensibilities will be offended if I show some Spydies in action. Stop here if you are disturbed by the sight of blood. The hands in the pictures are those of...

Re: Best knife for deer skinning.
I didn’t even think about the Mule Team collection. That’s a good idea. What are a few more Mule team steel options you guys would suggest that are still available?

Re: Best knife for deer skinning.
What would be a good steel to try and find the stretch in for skinning? This is the kind of application Sal designed the Stretch 2 for. https://assets.brandfolder.com/p95a46-162vhs-5anvok/view@2x.png?v=1527017589 If you want a fixed blade, the Moran Drop Point would be a great choice. https://assets...

Best knife for deer skinning.
I’ve searched the forum but could really find the exact answer I was looking for. I’ve planned on getting back into deer hunting this coming fall and was getting my list together of a few things I need to pick up and I looked at my small collection of spyderco and don’t know if any of them would fit...

Re: Which salt variation is best for my task?
Thanks for all the help guys. I have spent a good amount on knife stuff and knifes this year so the last one of the year will be this one. I have however decided to go with a pacific salt SE. I have plenty of PE knives but no SE. It will be a good switch up and add some variety to the collection. Ag...

Re: Evil D
If you just want to never worry about rust, there's no reason not to get a Salt. In addition to corrosion resistance H1 is also a seriously tough steel and will take a very very fine edge. The trade off is edge retention is average at best unless you thin the edge way out and leverage edge geometry...

Re: Which salt variation is best for my task?
So would it be overkill by getting a salt? I don't live near salt water or very rarely go to the beach. I do occasionally go fishing but that's just around fresh water. I thought the salt would be good because if it got bloody processing smalll or large game all I would need was a quick rinse under ...

Re: Which salt variation is best for my task?
That's what I thought too. But also knew the SE could do better in some places.NoFair wrote:If you plan to field dress deer etc. I'd go for a plain edge. Serrated doesn't work well with meat imho.

Which salt variation is best for my task?
Hey everyone, I have recently become kinda interested in the salt line and really like the looks and everything of the pacific salt. I thought I had my mind made up, but then started thinking of all the "chores" it's going to be used for and I'm hung up on the edge that would be best. I in...

Re: Normal after cardboard?
So is this normal for this kind of work? It's seems like the last time I broke down a box I used my paramilitary 2 and cut way more cardboard and didn't seem to have as much deformations in the edge.

Re: Normal after cardboard?
Thanks for all the advice guys. It is possible that maybe I didn't remove all the burr. I thought I was getting good at removing them, guess I need to focus more on that. But I thought it seemed like stout cardboard, and maybe I shouldn't have cut against the flutes the whole time. I spent about 5-1...
