Mostly I think we're kidding ourselves. Waved folders come the closest to simulating a fixed blade's draw speed, but even there any clip arrangement slows you down a bit relative to grabbing the handle of a sheathed fixed blade. On the other hand, I think the fixed blade proponents may be kidding th...

Recurves are far and away my favorite blade shapes for general use. I would love to see Spyderco produce a 3.5" to 4" recurve! The Chinook strikes me as the best choice of handle for it too. The Deacon: My favorite drop-point recurve is the Kershaw Boa... <img src="http://www.october....

I helped "beta test" the Salt, so I carried one every day for a few months. It did not hold an edge as well as the higher-end steels, but I thought it was comparable to AUS-6. With a SpyderEdge it should make just about anyone happy. The big plus is that the stuff just doesn't seem to rust...

Dialex has several designs that I would *love* to own. My impression is that we may someday see Spyderco produce one. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! In the meantime, if someone produces a limited run I'd be willing to pay semi-custom prices for one. --Bob Q <a href="http://www.october.com/kniv...

The Texas blade limit is 5-1/2" for both folders and fixed blades. Double-edged blades and autos are prohibited.

I'm another of those people whose sweat will corrode unprotected stainless in a matter of hours. I have found that wiping my blades down with a Tuff-Cloth once a week or so seems to protect them, as long as they aren't worn directly against my skin. However, I've given up on wearing neck knives that...

I can't give you a formal review, but I'm happy to share my experiences. I've had a Micarta SPOT PE for a few months. I carried it as a necker every day for more than a month. Then I rigged the sheath for belt carry and tried that in various positions. In either mode this is an outstanding knife! Th...

If you can deal with an alternative handle material I strongly recommend the various Becker (BK&T) models from Camillus. The BK10 Crewman (5-1/2" blade), BK7 Combat/Utility (7" blade), and BK9 Combat Bowie (9" blade) are among the best bargains available in working fixed blades. -...
