Re: Tatanka vs Voyager lock strength test By Cold Steel

Both have stronger locks than I will ever need. Both have stronger blades than I will ever break. But whereas the Voyager has all the aesthetics of a Model T, the Tatanka has the flowing lines of an Aston Martin. I'm going with the Tatanka.

I understand where you are coming from Twinboysdad, but I think there are a couple of good reasons for such a product.

First, not everyone will be willing to fork out a substantial amount of money, whether good value or not. I think, in particular, uniformed personnel generally are not that well ...

Cheaper Assist-Type Folder

I recently bought a SOG Escape folder on the cheap, and was quite impressed by it.

Spyderco has a great professional-grade folder, the Assist, but it's very much more expensive.

Could Spyderco come up with something like the SOG Escape? Perhaps based on the Tenacious series? A Tenacious with a ...

It's a preference thing. I prefer the Matriarch as it is smaller and lighter. Much easier to carry around, being almost the same size and thickness as the Endura.

I have a couple of assisted openers. Autos are illegal where I stay. So, I can only speak on assisted openers.

I find the manuals more sure on the draw. IMO, this has to do with how the knives are used. With manuals, even when I pop the blade open with an inertial opening, I have to hold it in ...

Yes, it's still in the rotation. Light and compact knife with a good blade shape for day-to-day urban use (i.e. opening packages and letters). Never underestimate how important a light knife is in EDC. :)

My less than two cents' worth, since I'm not an expert in this:

1. Shooting people may be no less bloody and traumatic than using a knife. The only difference may be that you are slightly further away, so you do not see the full extent of the harm that you have inflicted on a fellow human being ...

Thanks for the Matriarch discussion. I have been thinking about the waved version myself.
I don't like the wave for opening, but I like the look of it better. I have always wanted a
Civilian and this is more costly choice. I just need to figure out exactly what I would use it for.

Yes, that was ...

Thank you very much for your inputs. :)

I did not conduct any formal cutting tests on the M2. Your information is very interesting indeed.

I did nick my thumb accidentally on the SE though, and it did slice through quite a bit of flesh from even a light touch.

BTW, this is why I decided ...

Some Thoughts on the Matriarch 2

Well, I've finally pulled the trigger and bought the Matriarch 2. The following are some thoughts on the knife. Again, I want to emphasize that this is not a review, as I am not competent or expert enough to critique any knife design. These are just my subjective opinions.

I would like to compare ...

I have used and carried mine for close to half a year now. It is good for precision cuts, almost like a box-cutter, or disposable razor.

There's no problems closing or opening the blade. In fact, a wrist snap is all that is needed to deploy the blade. Interestingly, no matter how I tried the ...

Not to mention that it may leave your hand raw. I did that foolishly, and quickly realized the age-old concept of using the right tool for the right job.

Wow, I hadn't expected such a lot of response. :) Much of what you guys said is too true. I've given up trying to convince said guy that good enough really is good enough, and over-engineered is just that - over-engineered. It's one thing to have plenty of buffer and redundancy, but then, if one had ...

Frustration!: Arguing about lockback's strength

I don't know why, but I got into this silly argument over at another forum about the strength of the lockback on the Endura. I simply stated how I've used an Endura for pretty tough work (jungle survival training in Brunei), and the lockback mechanism never failed me. I never expected to get into an ...

Yes, it certainly does. Thank you. Given that my favourite knife is an Endura, if I were to get a Reverse-S blade, it will be a Matriarch as well. I don't see the need to go bigger and get a Civilian.

Can anyone explain the Reverse S shape?

I am familiar with karambit type knives. I have a Blackhawk Garra II, which I'm seeking to replace. I was thinking of something like the Harpy or the Byrd Hawkbill. Then I saw the Matriarch II. And, then, the knife shop in my area here apparently received a whole crate full of Civilians, because ...
