Re: Para 3 CPM-S45VN Question
Based on current charts, S30V should hold an edge better. S45V should be more stain resistant. I have the latter on order because a good price came up but would actually have preferred the former.

Re: Crazy Good Deals Part 2!!
On Righttobeararms orders, they have 'entire order ships free' on some items. Discovered after I ordered a Para 3 that there was a magazine pouch for $16 that would have gotten rid of the $10 shipping. Even with shipping, still a very good price on a SV45N Para 3.

Re: About that cardboard cutting...
Have to cut mine up to fit in a bin. Prefer not to burn it as that would just be turning it into air pollution.
It is an interesting knife topic. Cardboard will make you notice the difference between mule steels. It will also teach all about slicey blade profiles.

Another me too: 15 degrees per side. Keeps a keen edge for a long time. Never had it chip. Use it mostly for saltwater fishing.

Not sure you'll see a real world difference between S90v and S110v. But it's fun reading the graphs.

Re: What Will Be The First Magnacut Model?
The numbers on Magnacut are interesting. If I worked in a trade a larger Spyderco in this steel would certainly be a good choice.

Re: m390/20cv vs s30v
Unless everyone is sharpening the same blade design to the same profile to perform very similar tasks under the same conditions, you're going to get a myriad of viewpoints. Actually, even then you would get a myriad of viewpoints. That's why we look at steel charts to consider what characteristics w...

Re: Spyderco Watu is the answer to my quest
[ But if it had solid CF would the price still be $182? Should be. It's a common enough scale material in the $50 - $100 price range. I'm thinking Spyderco had CF laminate G10 on hand already (used it on a Sage?) so that's what they chose to use. Meh. But then I don't care for the highly functional...

Re: Spyderco Watu is the answer to my quest
Been enjoying solid CF on some less expensive knives lately. Guess that raised my expectations. Suppose if I handled a Watu it might change my mind but we'll see if I actually encounter one in the wild. I like the design otherwise and since I lost my Bradley Air I've been looking for something light...

Re: Spyderco Watu is the answer to my quest
That's sort of what I was thinking. For $180 street I would have already acquired one if it had solid CF. As it is, I keep balking on that one element of the design. Seems to dilute the whole deal.

Re: S110v - waning popularity?
No desire though for "chinese folder low end steels" here. Any more that would be D2 and 9CR18mov which are pretty decent steels that are perfectly adequate for normal and reasonable personal knife requirements. Nothing wrong with VG10 either. Aficionado's like those lurking about a forum...

Re: S110v - waning popularity?
I don't think anything else comes close if you like doing outdoor activities around saltwater. When I go fishing at the coast I'm not going to get a knife sharpened for several days while the knife sees frequent use. If someone has trouble sharpening a given steel it's a good opportunity to review t...

Or.. are they the memory chip of blue whales? Or the aurora borealis of sovereign debt? Or maybe the running shoe of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring? It's a tool. A good tool. But just a tool. And, quite a simple tool in concept and construction. Nothing in common with high end watches. Not even positio...
