H1 lives up to the hype

This past summer my son had a job working for a pool service business. He spent each day servicing pools around town, and in course of each day he regularly had to open bags of pool treatment chemicals. Some of those are powerful oxidizers. He started with his Native, but at the end of one day the ...

I really like the leafstorm. It makes a great small carry, very classy and unique design. Sure, it's not suitable for chopping down trees or punching through car doors, but I don't do that every day...

Although I have a very limited knife budget these days, I would find a way to finance the purchase of some sprint run FRN UKPK variants with supersteels. I really like that idea.

Calypso Jr Lightweight, so I voted FRN line. Although this could be considered Caly line, too.

My grandfather (born in 1910) was a knifeknut and carried a wide variety of traditionals, and Case figured prominently in his EDC rotation. My father is 74 and also a knifeknut. When I was young he had a few from Case, a Henckels sodbuster, and one of the very early Buck 110 models. Now he has a lot ...

Don't forget that school property (K-12) limits blades to 2.5", no locks allowed. Otherwise, for state law, there is no limit on blade length. A lot of the local ordinances are vague. The ban in SF only applies if you are loitering, which leaves it open to a lot of interpretation by the officer ...

I'd do it for you, but I don't know how long Sierra Trading Post will still have them. Let me know, you can email me at my forum ID at hotmail. You just need to figure out which method of shipment you want to use to send it to England. Right now the USPS priority mail small flat rate box is $23.95 ...

My CPM-D2 Para is possibly the smoothest-opening folder that I own...noticeably better than my Sebenza.

In direct comparison testing with cardboard and sisal, my CPM-D2 Para was just a little behind my S30V Para, but not by much. The CPM-D2 sharpens up to a very sharp edge very easily, too.

It's been at least a year since I last checked the statutes, but state law does not limit size for folders. There is also no state law that restricts folders on college campus. For K-12, there is a 2.5" limit, and no locks allowed.

Any knife that is designed to look like something else is also ...

I carry a CF UKPK all the time. It's a great design in a light package.

Having grown up before the one-hand locking knives came into being, I consider the lack of a lock to be a non-issue. As long as you don't try to cut with the spine, you won't have any problems.

I do not consider it a hideous generic font at all. In fact, from a historical perspective, it belongs on knives more than the font used for the Spyderco marking.

Until about the 1920's, virtually all knives sold in the US (Sheffield, US, or Solingen made) used this serif font. I think it adds a ...

The only other company from which I have knives that pushes the same hardness is Buck. Paul Bos set up their S30V at 59.5-60. In my testing of S30V blades, my S30V Para and an S30V Buck were pretty much tied; both were noticeably better than the BM S30V blade used in the same test. And all three of ...

I'm not sure how much faith to put into commercial Janka ratings. Cocobolo rates around 1100 on lists I've seen, but every piece of cocobolo I've worked with was as hard as any ebony or lignum vitae I've used. I'm sure there are wide variations by species, tree-to-tree, and even within the tree ...

Desert Ironwood (Olneya Tesota) is a very dense, oily, hard wood. Janka hardness is 2890, compared to 3220 for ebony, about 1300 for most oaks, 1450 for sugar maple, and 1136 for cocobolo.

It has so much oil that it is difficult to finish with many traditional wood coatings, and doesn't really need ...
