Re: Ikuchi

Mantra 2 remains my most carried knife. Thought I would love the Ikuchi but can’t warm up to the front flipper action

Re: glove compartment knife?

Native 5 serrated in Magnacut. Have not used it yet because I always have a knife (or two) on me but it is nice to know it is there.

Re: Collectors club program without numbers based off of new models that does not require variations

Many, many years ago I was a collector’s club member so obviously the numbered blades do not bother me. However I think there have been instances when having the first production knives was not advantageous due to CQI as has been mentioned above. Also buying every variety of each knife can get quite...

Re: Siren sprint

Siren interested me but I balked at the highly textured G-10 scales. Then the sprint showed up and the model was discontinued. That got me off the fence and I think I got the last one at Knifecenter.
So far it is living up to expectations.

Re: Mantra 2 - buy or pass

Mantra is my most carried knife for the reasons noted above. I like it so much I have NIB spare just in case.

Re: How did you get into Spyderco?

I went to a local gun store to buy ammo in the early eighties.Asked a salesman what he would recommend for EDC knife. Walked out with a full serrated edge Worker. Still have it along with many, many other Spydies.

Re: Advocate Update?

I must say that mine opens smoothly and "shakes" shut. The blade cuts and cuts and the ergos are great. It's a keeper.

This knife has become one of my favorites. Great ergos, slices nicely and costs less than $50.00. Makes a great second EDC for those of us who always carry at least two.

I usually like sharp, pointy blades, but the DH ergonomics are just not right for me.
That said, it is not a very good choice for foot surgery of the sort you described. Fine nippers and a thin currette would be better; but well done self surgery on feet is difficult unless you are very flexible.

The Bob T is my favorite Spydie:Jabba hit the high points, but I would stress how thin and light the knife is. It just disappears into your pocket. (I removed the clip from the one I carry.) It still has enough size to cut whatever I need to cut on a daily basis.

Yes, more micarta, please. It looks good, feels good in the hand, and it does not abrade fabric like the pebble grain G-10. Of course, polished G-10 isn't bad either, but micarta is still much nicer.

You don't need a new knife, you need new pants. Cargo pants, Eddie Bauer make nice ones, allow you to carry knives, a cell phone, wallet, etc. That said, the Des Horn, the Khukri, and the Bob T are all easy carries.

For me, the Street Beat is close to perfect. However, add me to the anti-Kydex camp. Just one caution, the KSF sheath I used did not have a welt to protect the stitching. Street Beat is mighty sharp...it cut the stitching. Anyway, that knife deserves a custom sheath.

As do others, I use Tuf Glide on non-stainless steels. I do not treat (Spyderco) stainless.
