Re: Civilian 2 Wish List - what would be today's perfect Civilian?

My two cents! The philosophy behind a Civilian is to be a knife specifically for self defense. That means it needs to be instantaneously accessible, dependable, but also that it does not need to have great "longevity" in that it is only expected to see a few cuts in its lifetime. Additiona...

Re: What constitutes a locking knife?

Question I've been thinking of. So there's obviously knives that lock (liner, back, RIL...) and knives that don't (friction and slipjoint). Now, say I design a knife that is a slipjoint until the user reinforces the lock with his/her hand. At this point, the knife is locked just about as strongly a...

Re: Slysz Bowie love ?

Cutlery Shoppe has them at $275, Knifeworks at $280... Trust me, I'm not saying it's cheap that's for sure, but of the many higher end Spydies I've bought in the last two years, this one stands well above the rest. The Rubicon is a good comparison, very expensive and I'm not sure it's worth it... I...

Re: What constitutes a locking knife?

I was playing with some designs, and was thinking of more of a set of levers or blocks so that your hand never directly takes the force of the closing blade. I feel like there must be a way to ensure the force of the lock is transferred to metal rather than human. Just curious if such a lock would a...

Re: Tell me why I need a Sebenza

This has always been on my list but everytime I start saving for one, I end up buying one or two Spydies instead. It's hard to justify dropping that much on one knife for me. I'd love to get one in my hands to see the quality for myself. At the price point ($150), Spyderco knives probably have some...

Re: Slysz Bowie love ?

I agree, the price is a killer for me. At $300, the knife starts to approach a tier dominated by Chris Reeve knives. At this point, the decision would be "Spyderco Slysz" or "Sebenza" for another $50 or so (maybe less second hand). Going the other way, a Spyderco Sage 2 can be fo...

Re: Military vs Endura Lock

Thanks. The reason I asked was that I generally mistrust liner locks. But I like the Millie and Spyderco does liner locks better than anybody. I prefer lock backs by a large margin, but, that millie is a real nice knife. The main problem is that generally, roughly speaking, liner locks are one of t...

Re: How About A Larger Scale Dodo Model?

I'd like a larger version :) I think the design would have to change a little bit ergonomics-wise. If you upscale the model you could make place for a full grip and make a handle without the little nub at the end since that would have no more use. Bladesteel could stay in s30v IMO and maybe make th...

Re: How About A Larger Scale Dodo Model?

Well, this thread got me remembering how much I liked the reverse s on the dodo and I broke down and pulled the trigger.......... On a pe lil Matriarch! I've been eyeing that one forever and finally decided I had to have one. Nice. I finished regrinding my SE Lil Mat to PE this week. I'm pretty sur...

Re: why not more S110V/S90V?

For what its worth, I've had the opposite experience with n680. When I worked retail, the difference between that and 154-cm was like night and day. but it seems like for folders, performance is a race-to-the-bottom for edge retention, which is why I appreciate Spyderco so much. ZDP-189 Endura? I d...

Re: why not more S110V/S90V?

IMO, S110V isn't worth it. Not saying I can't appreciate or see why it's at that price, but simply that I personally do not need it. I usually EDC a damascus Delica, and recently got my hands on a Forum 2013. To be honest, I wouldn't mind selling the Forum knife. The native's handle just doesn't fit...

Just wondering, but it seems like Spyderco's moving more into the high end market. I've been busy, but I think all the new knives are mostly around $150? The "value" lines like Delica, Endura, Stretch, or even the Tenacious seem to not be receiving as much attention. Personally, I'd love a...

I used to carry a zebralight SC52 every day, but it's kinda big. Recently "down-sized" to a L10 Illuminations L3 with a 14500, and the Nichia tint is gorgeous! It's to the point where a $25 flashlight has pushed my Zebralight out of my pocket and I don't know what to do with the zebralight...

I bet if you made a sprint of the Lil Temp, there'd be enough orders for it. Not sure how it'd work with Spyderco, but I'm almost certain you can sell them all. I don't care much for the G10 handles on the original, but I'd buy it just for the design anyway.
