Re: Why are so many people concerned with perfect blade centering?

Looked after another way: the online obsession with precise centering is actually a positive thing: it's because folding knives are now generally so good that such small variables are worthy of comment. Personally, I'm not OCD about blade centering. But I understand the folks who are I'm less puzzle...

Re: Friction forging? Anyone heard of this?

Interesting. Definitely another take on the differentially hardened approach but I wonder how much more cutting performance it actually liberates in small knives.

I suspect D2 is being used as it's a simple air hardening tool steel and very well characterised.

Re: Others Spyderco Competitors

I think, for me, each knife maker is doing their own thing for the most part and offering different things. Yes, there are overlaps in some cases- and clear cases of one manufacturer parking their tanks on another's lawn. But for the most part, what each of the big brands offer is specific to them.....

Re: Yojimbo 2 Best Pork Cutter?

I go in and out of wanting to buy a Yo2. If I did, it would just be the most basic model. The main thing that has kept me from pulling the trigger on one is the very delicate-looking tip. Even though I recall Michael Janich himself saying something about in Yo2’s he’s seen that had been extensively...

Re: Happy birthday, demoncase!

Apologies for the belated thank you- I've been off these boards for a while due to life stuff. Short version: -Early 2019 my beautiful little girl was born -Late 2019 got made redundant from my Head Of Quality role in additive manufacturing research. -Xmas 2019 got a mysterious "viral chest inf...

Re: Anyone Play Sniper Elite 4?

I just reloaded this on my X-Box. I tend to use the DeLisle Carbine as it makes every shot silenced Get the Kill Hitler DLC, set in a u-boat base. You get achievements for each replay with a different method of wasting him: so far I have (variously): -Shot him through the testicles -Dropped a U-boat...

Re: Has the Coronavirus affected your daily life?

I'm working 100% from home at the moment- whole of the UK is in lockdown.

It's like New Year's Day every day out there at the moment- very few people moving about and everyone keeping their distance

Re: DLC and rust.

Did some cursory research into DLC coating and it is referred to as improving corrosion resistance. I have to wonder if the thickness of the coating is the variable here. One website specifically mentioned its thicker DLC coating being a better corrosion barrier than standard-thickness DLC. It'll i...

Re: DLC and rust.

I've some experience with DLC coated blades and (in a more industrial context) DLC used for coating actuator bodies for aerospace use. DLC gets selected to reduce friction, increase surface hardness and provide a very high temperature black colouration..... It's primary function is not rust preventi...

If Sharpy made a "click" open and retract model then I'd carry one every day....

I have a really bad habit of losing the top for them and then I end up binning them.

Re: Stickers on your car - good or bad?

After I plastered one of my first motorbikes in sponsorship stickers and realised that I'd probably devalued it by £100 with £1 of peel-backed nonsense, I don't put anything on the paintwork unless there's a very good reason. I have an Adeptus Mechanicus symbol on my rear window- I wanted something ...

Re: More on Vitamins: Do they work ?

A balanced diet every day that is based on fresh produce is your best source of a balanced vitamin intake. Sounds obvious- but if you read the fine print on your over-the-counter supplement bottle it'll say "Not a substitute for a balanced diet" Personally, If I know I'm going to be eating...

You've got to be trying really hard to do damage to an FRN Delica or Endura- full steel liners, sabre ground blades and a solid backlock.

I drive a lot of motorway miles in the UK, so my last several cars have all been 2 liter diesels....Nothing like doing 65-85mpg to put a smile on your wallet- and always have manual. No fan of letting the car and the gearbox outvote me on what gear I want to be in. :D Currently- Vauxhall/Opel Insign...
