Re: Official Serration Pattern Thread
The Wharncliffe Byrd models are the thinnest ground sliciest models AFAIK they are the only ones ground that thin so far. The Byrd Rescues and others I’ve had were not as good, still good but not the same. I’ve used Spyderco’s serrations since I bought my first Endura circa 2004. I was always impres...

Re: Official Serration Pattern Thread
I haven't seen much discussion about the Byrd Wharncliffe models and their serrations. They are the best cutting ones I have at the moment. The Cara Cara 2 wharncliffe SE model is slicier than my Endura wharncliffe SE and every other SE Spydie I have. I assume it's because of a thinner grind and sha...

Re: Please recommend 3x Endura 4s for my use
1.) 20cv Knifejoy exclusive 2.) ZDP-189 3.) VG-10 Wharncliffe. (SE is my preference but either way it’s a cutting machine.) 20cv has become my favorite all around Endura. Between corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening. ZDP because of how well it handles abrasives, I cut rope and strap that are ...

Re: What percentage of your knives are spyderco?
About 78 percent folder wise, with around 57 Spyderco folders. Fixed blades it’s more like 20 percent and kitchen knives it’s around 30 percent.

Re: Rip my only PM2
Check the seatbelts, back of the seats and the ledge between the seat and the door. I’ve found more than a few that I’ve “lost” this way. I “lost” an Endela tying up a tree in the field to dig. The twine just grabbed the clip and luckily I noticed and found it before it was dug and shipped out.

Re: Why have multiple of same knife.
I follow my Dad’s advice on things in life. “If you find something you like, buy at least two because they will discontinue it.” I’ve taken this to the extreme with Spyderco and have a lot. Recently I’ve added three of Knifejoy 20CV Enduras. In many ways it’s the perfect combo for me. I also have 10...

Re: Does anyone use a S90V blade?
I will say that I much prefer more “balanced” steels. I have the equipment to deal with S90V just fine, but I prefer something that sharpens more quickly, even though it may need attention more often. I agree with this. Five years ago I’d have said different but I’ve changed my tune. I loved S110v ...

Re: Does anyone use a S90V blade?
I haven’t used S90v in over a year. Before that I carried a Manix LW in it for several years. I butchered the blade and couldn’t get it back to a point that I liked in sharpening. I’ve since got it back to a decent edge though not as toothy as I’d like. I loved it’s edge holding properties and have ...

Re: Byrd Wharnies incoming!
I received a Harrier last week and a Cara Cara 2 this week. Both full SE. I’ve been carrying the Cara at work as my SE compliment to a PE Spyderco. It’s zipped through twine and rope so far. It’s already shaping up to be my favorite Byrd so far. I imagine I’ll use it harder than I would my SE Spyder...

Boise State colors. The ones with the blue football field. My Dad became a fan because of their blue field and lab that retrieved the kicking tee several years ago.

Re: Which endura to get?
The Endura is tied for my favorite Spyderco along with the Manix LW. I have twelve plus two Pacific Salts. I want to add a few more, a spare ZDP model and an LC200N. Maybe a SE K390. My first obsession was the Delica but once I discovered the Endura I don’t think I’ve carried a Delica as a primary a...

Re: Which endura to get?
I don’t think of ZDP-189 as a super steel in anything except holding a slicing edge far longer than anything else I’ve used. Something that made it stand out for me was cutting dirty and sandy felt sheets we use to wrap tree trunks and it would still slice 3 ply sisal rope cleanly with little effort...

Re: Which endura to get?
I’d recommend the Knifejoy 20CV sprint run as it’s the most likely to be unavailable going forward. Second would be a ZDP-189 version also due to its possible demise. After that, a serrated one would be a good variation to have. Personally the wharncliffe serrated version is my own little pocket cha...

Re: KnifeJoy 20cv Endura4
This is one I’m excited for. I appreciate all the Delicate sprints and own a few however I really don’t use them. They’re a bit small for my hands. I feel like the Endura is under represented but I suppose it’s just not as popular.

Re: The good ol' ZDP-189 vs K390 debate..
I’d get the ZDP-189 one now. Sal has said that ZDP-189 may be discontinued soon by Hitachi. K390 will probably be around for awhile so you could get one of those going forward. For me ZDP is one of my favorite steels. It sharpens up awesomely and holds a biting edge longer than many other steels. Co...

Re: Did Spyderco go too far in catering to steel junkies?
No, they did not. In the larger product lines or more produced lines like many of the Seki and Golden models they have a multi level approach. With the Seki models they have a well balanced all around steel in VG—10 and then a high performance less balanced steel in ZDP-189 and now K390. Golden is s...

Re: HELP!!! I need work shoes!!!
I feel your pain. I wear a 14 wide in most shoes and a 15 in some brands. Red Wing was the best I’ve had for being on concrete all day. Keen would be another brand to take a look at. They have several low top styles in large sizes. Of course that depends on how dressy you need to be. In my experienc...

Re: Stretch 2 or Endura 4
I think it depends on what you’d like to do with it. Both are great. The Stretch has better ergonomics and is extremely comfortable when in use. The Endura is slimmer side to side and less bulky in the pocket. It also has a bit longer cutting edge.

Re: ZDP-189 outside of Japan.
As mentioned, Hitachi wants ZDP heat treated only by Hitachi trained heat treating facilities, which are in Japan. Also, it appears that Hitachi might stop making ZDP. sal Sal, That’s what I thought you’d say on bringing it in. As for the stop in production that’s disappointing. I know it’s not mag...
