Re: Stropping Question

I find that stropping with diamond compound works faster on all steels, and one of the keys to making a strop work is to minimize passes. I think the diamond compound refines the apex faster and removes any microburring faster than traditional compounds, and I use it on all steels now. I use 1 micr...

Re: Stropping Question

I bought a product over ten years ago from a wood working supply company. Called herbs yellow stone. I have razor strops pasted with chrome oxide and iron oxide. This cuts faster than chrome and leaves a finish finer than iron. No idea what is in it, but its peachy color. Put some neats foot oil on...

Re: Stretch 2 lock rock?

I have a large collection of Seki knives with back lock design. All are excellent with no rock lock, not the slightest. If you really force a large amount of pressure on the blade spine, a slight amount of movement may be detected in a few knives. Presently have several K390 Stretch 2, Endura and De...

Re: What knife do you carry clipless?

Many of my Spyderco knives are clipless. A favorite method is in a Victorinox large nylon belt pouch for Endura sized knives. I also daily carry a Delica in the short Victorinox nylon belt pouch. The Military fits nicely in a Benchmade nylon pouch. Have no need for "quick draw" and "p...

Re: H1 goodness

I carried a serrated H1 salt 2 daily when I lived in southern Florida. However, it seemed the PE portion of that knife's tip was perpetually dull. If I cut anything more than tape, the razor sharpness (achieved with the sharpmaker brown medium stones) would disappear almost instantly along the PE p...

Re: Three questions.

Regarding question two, in a word, tolerances. The Golden factory holds closer manufacturing tolerances than the Seki makers. I disagree, in my collection of Seki-City models, about 40+,,, all have excellent lock-up and fit/finish are superior. My only disappointment with 30+ years of Spyderco was ...

Knife Edge Testing ,,,, the most interesting YouTube video I have found is here: https://youtu.be/E3OSGl1I8go This is one of the few creators who does a realistic test and discusses variables. Outstanding results that shatter the remainder of the "experts" who make charts and discuss at le...

A Stretch 2 in K390 with the original blade drop point.
I would immediately purchase 2 or 3.
My favorite Seki-City Spyderco.

Re: Delica k390 Wharncliffe

My Delica Wharncliffe K390 arrived,,, every bit as sharp as the earlier KJ wharncliffe with CPM 20CV.
Bevels slightly off in width from one side to other,,,, easily adjusted in future sharpening.
Classic "Sticky Sharp" is a trend with my K390 blades.

Re: Best PM2 in either M390/204P/20CV

IMHO it is more about edge geometry and sharpening stones/strop used than steel alloys or small amount of Rc differences. The tester sharpens without really knowing a apex angles very accurately and does not measure them in any manner. The Rc tests are rather suspect, many are done in small shops wi...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

This is a common error when following the overused instruction to "sharpen one side on coarse stone until you feel a burr,,,, then go to opposite side until a burr is formed". Very commonly this leads to offset apex with relation to center line of blade, especially with dull knives. I read...

Re: VG10 strong enough?

The BHQ video make no practical sense in the real world.
Why test a lock to destruction for CLOSING the blade,,,, we apply max force in the opposite direction when cutting.

Really a stunt for click bait on YouTube.

Re: cardboard cutting

Completely agree on preferring a box cutter/utility knife with upgraded blade for cardboard. When it gets dull, a quick stropping on diamond paste will easily and quickly restore the apex. Comfortable handles are available with utility knife designs and fixed blade positions for low cost. I use a le...
