Re: Heat Treatments any verification?

Was the posted HRc done in a metallurgy lab, clean room or in a dirty oily machine shop?

A single number hardness test is rather suspect for accuracy.

Among the better steels (and even with lesser ones in the mix), blade and edge geometry is the most important thing, not steel type and hardness. Those follow.

Re: M390 Delica Blue FRN Bento Box Shop Exclusive

How's the sharpness out of the box?

Very nice apex and very sharp, both knives equal.

I normally sharpen a new knife due to most having rather coarse belt grinding finishes,,, these two were great out of the box.

Re: Hap40 Delica Wharnie - WOW

The HAP40 laminated models have me wondering if the cladding is done for the sake of strength or corrosion resistance? (Or perhaps both?) anyone have any speculation they care to share? HAP40 is commonly used in Japan for kitchen knives, these are all laminated with stainless to minimize corrosion ...

Re: M390 Delica Blue FRN Bento Box Shop Exclusive

The two I ordered on Friday,,,, just arrived this morning in CT. Excellent QC from Seki City, perfectly centered, well detailed and excellent edge apex, consistent on both sides and very nice finish on the bevel grinding. Two of the nicest Delica models from Spyderco to date. Really like the dark bl...

Re: M390 Delica Blue FRN Bento Box Shop Exclusive

I also just purchased two, less cost than the recent SG2 Delica/Endura release.

Delica has been a favorite EDC carry since the mid 1990's.
Also EDC a PM2 and Endura daily, three knives? Yes,,, need more pockets.

Re: Cleaning G 10 scales?

Last year I purchased a used Military Cruwear with the light grey G-10,,,, it was rather dirty with stubborn marks.
The Magic Eraser worked quickly and easily,,, the knife now looks minty.

Re: Spyderco's ATS-55 Era: A Really Noteworthy Time In Spyderco History

JD Spydo, Thanks for the thread, I just purchased a NIB Rescue FRN with ATS-55 blade. I am planning a informal test of serrated edge Spyderco knives with various steels in the near future. Any suggestions on medium and when to stop cutting (how to determine if serrations are dull relative to other t...

I also do not care for black.

In fact, I avoid newly introduced knife designs until Spyderco offers a sprint/exclusive run with other colored scales.

Re: Massdrop SG2 Delica...arrived!!

Just received my Endura and Delica in SG2. Both are perfect in fit, finish and excellent sharpening, nice crisp apex. The lamination is even on both sides and consistent better than many HAP-40 blades in my collection. I have found Seki manuf. to be excellent for many years and have 30+ knives in De...

My 20 year old Military SE with 440V steel,,, full flat grind and excellent cutting.

Second would be the new Endura Wharncliffe SE VG-10, another full flat grind.

Re: Am i just lucky with my super steels?

No one has discussed one of the most important aspects of sharpening,,, observation of the apex. I really like and rely on a 10X eye loop to observe the very small rolled edge or wire edge which is sometimes a frustrating component of very sharp knives. My first introduction to ZDP-189 for example,,...
