Re: Your Thoughts of an Ideal Companion Blade?

For many years mine was a Delica in ZDP-189,, I have been considering another design with FFG SE in the future.
The Delica is very comfortable in upper front shirt pocket.

Re: Pm2 pocket clip screws - is there a trick?

I had the identical problem with one PM2 in my collection.
Agree with inserting the screws first without clip,, they will have a longer engagement and form up the interface between steel liners and G10 scales.

Re: Sharpening stone suggestions?

I gave used DMT for over 30 years,,, excellent products. The extra coarse is very agressive when new,, it takes considerable use to calm down and level out for precision apex formation. I suggest coarse and use very minimal pressure.and it will break in fairly fast. Alternately get the ex coarse and...

Re: Idea: Lanyard Tube Removal Tool

I personally like the lanyard tube construction on my PM2, Para and Military CQI. They are an integral part of the design,,,, the tube is flared into the scales and holds them firmly onto the lanyard tube. Replacing the factory tube with aftermarket is fine but does weaken the overall original desig...

Re: Interest in a Super Blue Para 3?

I also really like Super Blue steel, have in my collection Delica, Endura and Stretch. Not certain on the Para 3,, blade stock is rather thick for great slicing. I would rather have another run of the original three with laminated Super Blue. Most likely never happen since they were "sprint" runs an...

Re: Patina question.

The base metal in steel is Fe (iron) which reacts to form three types of "rust" Iron(III) oxide or ferric oxide is the inorganic compound with the formula Fe2O3. It is one of the three main oxides of iron, the other two being iron(II) oxide (FeO), which is rare; and iron(II,III) oxide (Fe3O4), which...

Re: Patina question.

From my experience, once oiled, rainbow patina will turn gray/brown. That means chemical reaction is ongoing under the oil/coating. We saw that in the metals industry,,, a brand new very expensive part was shipped to customer in Asia,,,, under the thick protective coating a hand print had etched in...

If you are going to play/experiment with this,, use some masking tape on the blade edge.

Re: Let's take a look inside my Police 4

Joe, It will help but not certain of electrical conductivity of rustoleum and relative thickness. I suggest a polymer based paint of some kind, alternatively you could coat the inside pocket on the CF liners. Would be an interesting experiment to coat one side only and see what happens to liners. Using the tools on a regular schedule,,, I did not reapply until the project was finished for that tool. Only used Ren wax for tools going into short term storage/inactivity. Regular use tools have silicone treated gun cloth wipe down at end of day. You can also do this with any knife. Regards, FK

Re: Let's take a look inside my Police 4

Hi Sal, I am FK the poster you answered. G-10 is a glass epoxy laminate which has a high dielectric strength, an insulator, and would not contribute to galvanic corrosion as observed by some users of the P4 model. This is the first I have seen with this type of corrosion and was curious if other CF ...

Re: Let's take a look inside my Police 4

Cambertree, Yes, classic galvanic corrosion must have Four factors to occur. 1. Dissimilar metals in direct contact. 2. Both metals are immersed in an electrolyte such as water 4. The different metals have different electrode potentials. The electrode potential is the tendency of a metal to give up ...

Re: Cruwear delica cut testing

The Shaman is a clunker compared to a Delica blade for slicing.
That is the one factor keeping me from purchase.

Thanks for taking the time to post a video.
Compared to your DF2 V-Toku2 test with 100ft, the Cruwear is an excellent steel.

Re: Lock-bar insert question

I have used Renaissance Wax for 20+ years on my fixed blades and wood working tools. Excellent product but no experience with folding knives for daily use. Really like Nano-Oil for the wear surfaces on lockbar and bronze washers, it dries to a thin film and does not attract dust/dirt like more visco...

Re: Lock-bar insert question

The contact surfaces are polished and should not wear at all after initial break-in period.
If you use a little lubrication on the blade/lockbar interface it will also make the open/close much smoother.

Re: KnifeJoy Damascus Delica and Endura

It is not the traditional folded and forged laminated Damascus,, this Spyderco Delica consists of layers of steel laminates bonded to a core of VG-10 in a cold rolling mill process. Think plywood construction, it is rather common in Japan for lower priced kitchen knives. I have one of the earlier is...
