Re: Sharpening with leather.

Their are many sources for diamond paste and spray. Be careful of "low price wins" the main item to observe: what is the weight or amount of diamond in the package? Higher concentrations will require much less application and last longer than the lowest priced product. I like the knife sharpening su...

Re: What happened to the flat-ground Rescue?

I have the new C14 Rescue model with full flat grind, that design along with my Endura Wharncliffe FFG are much thinner at the edge and cut more efficiently than the previous hollow grind blade shapes.

Nice improvement but mainly unremarkable on the forum until now.

Re: Why does tooling get destroyed?

Consider the number of models that Spyderco has introduced and discontinued.

In addition, in today's production most of what we are discussing is not tool and die hardware but computer programs for CNC type of machines.

Re: Why does tooling get destroyed?

Most manuf. companies have a fixed amount of sq. ft. for machinery and assembly of products.
Storage of old or obsolete tooling takes away from that valuable production area.
Why pay taxes, insurance and maintenance for floor space that is not making the company a profit?

Re: Sharpening with leather.

The effect on maintaining an edge with diamond vs CBN is identical. I have also used CBN/leather for years on kitchen knives to maintain the final working sharpness with ease. I also believe it removes the broken distorted apex rather than bending it back into alignment as with very hard ceramics or...

Re: Sharpening with leather.

Thin hard leather with diamond is excellent to maintain a working edge.
Use light pressure and do not let the apex get too dull.
i have used this technique for years.u

Re: Just ordered some Nano Oil *cough snake oil cough*

Nano-Oil is my favorite for folding knives.

For new knives, 5wt for the initial pivot/washers and after that 10wt for routine lub.

I hope this straight spine Stretch is a low volume special variation,,,, not a remodeled Stretch 3 production run.
Much prefer the original Stretch blade shape.

Re: "HRC as advertised." Who is accurately listing HRC?

Thank you for above spreadsheet,,,, again showing how blind faith in Rc numbers does not tell the entire story. True Cryo at -300F results in much improved physical properties than the more common liquid Nitrogen quick dip. Wear resistance is commonly doubled in precision rifle barrels with only the...

Re: Heat Treatments any verification?

Was the posted HRc done in a metallurgy lab, clean room or in a dirty oily machine shop?

A single number hardness test is rather suspect for accuracy.

Among the better steels (and even with lesser ones in the mix), blade and edge geometry is the most important thing, not steel type and hardness. Those follow.

Re: M390 Delica Blue FRN Bento Box Shop Exclusive

How's the sharpness out of the box?

Very nice apex and very sharp, both knives equal.

I normally sharpen a new knife due to most having rather coarse belt grinding finishes,,, these two were great out of the box.

Re: Hap40 Delica Wharnie - WOW

The HAP40 laminated models have me wondering if the cladding is done for the sake of strength or corrosion resistance? (Or perhaps both?) anyone have any speculation they care to share? HAP40 is commonly used in Japan for kitchen knives, these are all laminated with stainless to minimize corrosion ...

The two I ordered on Friday,,,, just arrived this morning in CT. Excellent QC from Seki City, perfectly centered, well detailed and excellent edge apex, consistent on both sides and very nice finish on the bevel grinding. Two of the nicest Delica models from Spyderco to date. Really like the dark bl...

Re: M390 Delica Blue FRN Bento Box Shop Exclusive

I also just purchased two, less cost than the recent SG2 Delica/Endura release.

Delica has been a favorite EDC carry since the mid 1990's.
Also EDC a PM2 and Endura daily, three knives? Yes,,, need more pockets.
