"I originally sought blade training in order to better understand how a knife may be used against me." That's actually one of the main reasons I have tried to keep up to date on the methodology. My EDC is a Karahawk, and prior to that was a Tasman Salt and prior to that was a 5.11 Tarani ...

Has anyone seen the new Glock model 42 .380 I am eagerly waiting to handle one of these! Until late 2011, I would have scoffed at the idea, but a soft-kicking, locked-breech, hand-filling polymer-frame .380 may be just what my aging, aching right hand needs, an orthopedic back-up gun. (After a life...

My classiest pistol is a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special. While I try not to abuse it, it is no safe queen. The only change I made was to install Strider Gunner Grips. I may soon install a wider-notch rear sight. I bought it around 1999 or 2000, and carried it concealed for a couple of years, while I...

My teenage nephew drowned his iPhone when using a Lifeproof case. He may or may not have failed to close the thing after charging. That kid drowned two iPhones within a month! (The Lifeproof case was only involved in one drowning.) They were insured, but the insurance company dropped the policy afte...

I like to have a working knowledge of several gripping methods, because I may not, in an emergency, be able to attain the ideal grip for a given blade. I may have to at least start with the initial grip I have attained. Being an LEO, I can carry a pistol, legally, more places than I can carry a seri...

None of the above, unless riding in the driver's door pocket of my Honda Civic counts, in which case it would be my clip-less Military, the clip being damaged so long ago, I have forgotten how it happened. (I used to be very rough on pocket clips!) At work, I carry an Assist in one front pants pocke...

No need in more than fifty years of lifetime for self-defense if you life in a peaceful country. Therefore I don't carry a knife or something else for that purpose ... maybe I have to change my mind, if I visit the US. Is it really so dangerous to life in the states? First time I ask this, as over ...

My almost-daily-carry, purely defensive blade is a Spyderco Civilian. It is not my primary defensive weapon; more like tertiary. My actual EDC blade is a Tarani Masters Model Karambit folder, pre-5.11, made by Blade-tech for Karambit.com, back it its day. I do, indeed, think of my Karambit as a tool...

I still carry a Civilian, deeply concealed, on a regular basis. Even though my (rather limited) blade training, since acquiring my pair of Civilians, has been more point-driven, the slim compactness of a Civi makes it effortless to carry, and its methodology is quite intuitive, so it still has a pla...

I sought knife training, in order to better understand how a blade might be used against me, on my cop job, or otherwise. Unless duty compels me to make a stand, Plan A is to create some distance, right quickly, if practicable! If I am with family, or another vulnerable person, that might mean somet...

My current favorite is a Surefire LX2 Digital Lumamax. It was a pair of them, but one has been misplaced; temporarily, I hope! A past favorite was the Surefire M2 Centurion, and I do still have two of them. Then, there is my M3 Millenium, same brand. On the small side, I like the handily small Innov...

I have been carrying a pocket knife virtually everywhere since I was a kid, including church. In my younger days, I did not consider a simple folding knife to be a weapon, anyway, as it seemed the blade would close upon one's fingers. Even at school, simple folders were not seen as weapons. (I gradu...

Well, based upon numbers I have on hand, an easy answer would be Strider, with two MSC and one DDC, plus several standard models. My most-carried, under the most conditions, virtually always with me, however, is a Tarani Masters Model Karambit, from the Karambit.com era, made by Blade-tech. (I do ha...

Al Mar didn't make "replicas", Rex. One of the main reasons he and his knives are held in such high regard in the SF Community. It was designed off a Celtic Sword. Allow me to reference Cutler's Cove... Al Mar Combat Smatchet He didn't make a "replica"...he perfected it. I agree...

The Gunting and Ronin; don't ask me to pick one or the other. I anticipated discontinuation, and bought several extras of each. I regret not buying one of the fixed-blade Hossom collaborations. The fixed-blade Temperance is another favorite, though it has come back, thankfully, in modified form. I a...

"Standard;" I like to feel the lock engage, as an extra measure of confidence. That being said, I practiced plenty of kinetic openings with my Guntings, and that method, which the poll did not mention, works reliably for me to have confidence in it.

Civilian was designed specifically as a last ditch defensive weapon. For years it wasn't even shown in Spyderco's consumer catalogs. The Matriarchs were originally designed as a defensive weapon for South African women. It too was marketed very selectively for years. Like motorcycle helmets, if eit...
