Re: Cruwear Micarta PM2 Full liners

Like I said, I feel neutral about the full liners. We asked for micarta. Spyderco gave us micarta, in a regular production model, in an excellent steel, with an excellent heat treatment, for a reasonable price. That is a win in my opinion. The full liners will not be adopted across the range, and i...

I feel neutral about the scales and handle construction…
Can I ask you then what feature of the original handle style was found to be lacking, in your estimation, and how this update improves upon that shortcoming?

Agree with your blade assessment, though. It’s first rate across the board.

Re: Cruwear Micarta PM2 Full liners

That being said, Spyderco obviously knows more than I do, and I trust that if they've made the change, it's for a good reason. Now that I have one in hand, I’m afraid I must disagree. The full, non-nested liners make this variant look and feel cheap in comparison to all the previous models I own. T...

Yeah, as long as your knife shop knows to keep the blade (and particularly the edge) cool throughout the regrinding process, I think you should be fine.

It's not clear coated, depending on the media size used in the tumbler it produces an almost polished finish. Yours probably wasn't left in long enough. A reasonable theory. Although if that were the case, you'd have to wonder why it's only one side of the blade showing the vestiges of these grind ...

I only own one damascus style knife. Given the nature of a recent collaboration, Sal might not mind too much seeing it here. :)

I voted "other" because it was Sal's willingness to experiment with newer blade steels that enticed me to give Spyderco a try more so than any particular folder style. S30V, ZDP-189, CTS-XHP, CTS-204P and CTS-20CP are but a few of the offerings that brought me permanently into the fold.

Sounds to me like you are describing the A.T.R. :) Well, if Sal decided he wanted to start making those again, you'd certainly hear no complaints from me. :) In the meantime, I continue to be mesmerized by the 'shop Phrenik put together a couple of years ago. http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/103/...

Factor in wood carving which I now also do a lot of...and ZDP is far too prone to chipping doing torsional cuts. M4 is vastly superior for this task IMO. Lots of good responses here already. To my mind though, the bit above focuses in particularly well on the most fundamental difference between the...

Great job as per normal, Jim. Your macro-photography skills are starting to rival your blade testing skills. :) While I'm sure these last two pictures will be subjected to more scrutiny than the Zapruder film, I do believe I can detect an ever so slight increase in edge degradation with the S-90V bl...

Carbon fiber is not nearly as strong or tough as G10. I don't know that this is technically accurate. It's true that carbon fiber bike frames aren't as durable as their steel or aluminum counterparts, but that being said, I'd be in no rush to hit a steep down hill section on a G-10 framed bike. ;) ...

It's free hanging hair, I just drag it over the edge on it's own weight. Impressive. I'm afraid my own hair is still a bit too close to USMC regulation length to allow for the perfecting of such a technique. :) Being that it's a SPyderco forum I really shouldn't post it. Agreed. Perhaps we can save...

Looks like a beauty, Ank. I'd love to see a pic of the rest of it, though I'm hesitant to ask being respectful of the fact that this is a Spyderco forum. In lieu of that, can I ask if there's a technique to doing your hair splitting test? Do you just let the hair dangle and then try to catch the bla...
