Re: Spyderco Kapara to Redback Mod

Thanks for posting that. Sometimes it seems a bit silly to do a video on undoing 3 screws :D but if it gives some the confidence to do a little maintenance or modifications etc on their knives then it was well worth it.

Re: Alistair Phillips Custom Kapara Backspacers

Thanks for posting that! I never know what is allowed with the forum rules and so forth. If anyone is interested this first batch is from the same sheet of G10 that the original backspacers for the Redback prototype came from. Just a bit of trivia for you all.

Re: When is knife named after it´s designer?

Sal would have to answer this one from the Spyderco side of things. That model was already known as the Redback but that is already trademarked so it couldn't be named that. Kapara worked nicely as another name for the same thing. If you google "Spyderco Kapara" it is pretty evident who the designer...

Re: 2018 Alistair Phillips!

Ali designed the knife for BBQ's which re very popular in Oz. sal I can definitely attest to its ability as a great steak knife for a BBQ. At one of the Australian Blade Symposiums we all got around for a BBQ meal at the end of the day. The caterers had provided plastic cutlery which was woeful for...

Unlikely to at this stage. I haven't been to Perth since I was a little kid. We went out to see the Pinnacles and I still remember it.

Re: 2018 Alistair Phillips!

If anyone is going to be at the Sydney Knife Show this weekend Down Under they could pick up one of my customs :D I have only just started making them again after a bit of a hiatus earlier in the year due to travel and renovations at home. Making them has renewed my love for this design. Glad you al...

Just preordered it. By the way, "Kapara" - is it local name of redback spider?
Awesome I hope you enjoy it. Yeah Kapara Spider is a common name for the redback

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2018 Report

Phillips. Lovely. If the blade was 0.04” shorter it would be Colorado legal. Bummer. Yes, this. So, so close. Bummer indeed. :( I didn’t even know that you had blade length restrictions over there. I wonder how it would look with a stubby blade regrind. 1cm can make a big difference in the look of ...

Re: New Custom Spyderco Slipjoint Design

@Reject I'll see if I can get some good photos of it in action next time I use it. You pretty much nailed it with the idea of push cutting with downwards pressure, then using the front half for slicing etc. Talking of it being used at a BBQ. I attended the Blade symposium at Keith's place in Tahmoor...
