Gunting for sale...

Sooo, how much was it, and is it still there? I am in the market for a new one, especially if it is a plain edge!

One more thing...

If, at the border, they ask you if you "have any weapons" the answer is "no". Your knives are tools, *not* weapons.

I especially like this one http://members.shaw.ca/Vancouver-CSSD/DSCF0627.JPG

At first glance, it looks like I am actually nailing Yuval in the head....but in reality he had already tagged me about 3 times in 0.2 seconds before that pic was taken.

Hey Steve, Did you get a chance to refilm Greg doing the bowie cut and backcut flow drills? I am getting confused (what else is new!) about the transition from the second thrust (6) in the flow drill, through the "and" and into the Passata Soto. From the initial right hand side (5) thrust,...

Hmmm Islay all the way as well. I was "trained" up on Lagavulin and Laphroaig after telling my father in law one day that I hated scotch.... Bruichladdich is almost impossible to get in Canada, unfortunateley....

That being said, Famous Grouse is quite nice for the price...

When I got my black Dodo, I noticed that under tension, the lock would fail. Looking closely at it, I noticed that the ball was basically sitting directly over the "joint" between the back/heel of the locking ramp and the metal lock assembly. I took the blade out (and broke two T-6 bits tr...

I just got a set of Martin's resin trainers over the weekend. All I can say is "wow!" This little blade fits perfectly in the hand, grip changes are quick and secure, with the extra curve on the back, the horn doesn't interfere with a 'through the fingers' change, and with the angle, it co...

If I recall correctly, the new Gunting has a regular pivot, not the adjustable 12 sided eccentric one.

Hi Mike, >Once I've got one tuned the way I want it, I'll post details and pictures. I am looking forward to seeing the results. >I'm waiting on some raw materials from a knifemaking supply house to finish the job. I had mine apart over the weekend to tune up the lock a bit. As received, it was just...

Hi Michael,

Are you willing to share your thoughts on how you are modifying your Dodo? I am quite taken by the knife thing myself. It certainly holds well in the thumb-on-spine grip.

Also, do you have any idea of the strength rating for the lock? I imagine it should be reasonably high.

Wavy Ronin edge

Does anyone else's Ronin have a bit of a wavy edge grind? I looked at several in different stores, before I finally bought one on Ebay. Every one I saw had some amount of variation in the edge 'straightness'. The one I ended up with is pretty good, but still took about an hour with a diamond stone t...

Hmmmm, rather poor planning if it is only RHS clip. Though, RHS clip in left hand pocket works well for a left hand edge-up draw.

Once you finish with the 40 degree bevel, strop the blade on a piece of brekfast cereal box cardboard. A few strokes will really refine and polish the edge. This is a good way to quickly touch up the edge freehand in between 'hits' with the ceramic sticks.

Something Bram didn't mention, I think... We live in a right hand world, and for *most* situations, even if you are left handed, you are not going to be "mirror imaging" a regular right handed response to a right handed (or left handed!) attack. This stuff is a bit mind-boggling to explain...
