It would be funny if it didn't really affect a bunch of people's opinion on the steel. A lot are still convinced it's defective steel even though there have been dozens of posts on different threads talking about good service from the steel. Hopefully the large amount of high end folders pouring ...

DLC is an IonBond coating, which means that it's molecularly bonded to the surface of the steel. It's not like powder coat, which chemically adheres to the surface. As such, I don't know of anything that can "strip" it like stripping paint. The "DL" stands for "diamond-like" because it's hard ...

Jim Ray, founder of MOD, spent a long time searching for the ultimate conditioning oil for DLC. He found that LPS TKX non-drying spray lubricant worked the best. Spray it on or saturate a soft cloth and wipe it on generously. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and then wipe it off. It provides a ...

No worries friend, I will be purchasing 2 of them. I will gladly pick up any slack you leve behind, as will Mr. Newell. ;)

In my opinion, the "mess" as you put it was handled promptly and professionally by Mr. Glesser, I doubt it could have been any better. Mistakes happen, everyone makes them ...

I'm seeing $59 in the OP, but $84 on the official page. I'm gonma be a little upset if that's the case, like can't swing $84 upset.

Not well handled mess. Bad image for Spiderco, giving an impression of trying to make up their screw up.

Two of my friends decided to buy one knife instead of two ...

Main purpose of DLC coating ( diamond like coating, CVD or PVD ) is not for non-reflective of knife surface, I would assume. After DLC coating at 3000+ HV, it is very hard, and I believe Spyderco applied DLC on the knives and clips for superior scratch prevention

Before coating of any kind, the ...

If you are contemplating this to prevent corrosion, skip the DLC.Corrosion can form underneath the coating like it's not even there.

This is an interesting comment about DLC coating. I would asume you experinced corrosion formed after the knife ( or tool ) is DLC coated.

Wouldn't it be the other way around? Wouldn't a smoother finishing with better lubricity making the cutting of cardboard easier; therefore, last longer?

Im pretty sure thats not going to happen. DLC is most likely out for mules. As somone who makes their own scales, I can tell you this would create a big problem if the blade were dlc'd prior to flushing up the scales. Besides S110v is already so expensive, any added costs might make it not worth ...

Glad we were able to react quickly. I would guess a month or so. Have to pull them all together, heat treat, clean up, engrave, sharpen, package.

Anyone remember the Buck Crosslocks with gold colored BuckCote? They had a single bevel edge and the coating was suppose to increase the edge retention by 5X. They likened it to a beaver tooth, the softer steel would wear away and the hard BuckCote would remain behind.

Because it increase edge thickness and doesn't come to a sharp point so it's no longer as sharp, and the first time you sharpen it's gone.

Do you know how thick the DLC costing is? At that thickness do you think it would matter enough of the sharp edge?

If DLC coating makes the edge not as sharp ...

Not all black-bladed Spydies are DLC, fwiw.

That said, DLC holds up very well for most EDC-type or average use chores. Unless you're cutting through cinder blocks, it's hard to damage the finish.

I've used my DLC Manix2 for all kinds of stuff and the finish hasn't faded, streaked, lightened or ...
